Anyone have experience with a breech baby?
So my SIL is due with their 2nd child in a couple of weeks.
At her last appointment, they found out the baby was breech. Today she went in and they were able to successfully turn the baby.
I was just wondering if any of you who had a breech baby had them turned manually.... and if they stayed in position or went back to being breech.
Just curious while we wait for the little one's arrival!

wow. it's a great sign that they were able to turn him! and your poor SIl, I hear that it's PAINFUL..
my nephew was breech and the date my sis went to have him turned, they did a son and her fluiids were so low that they had to take him (c-section) the next day!

I'm going to call her later and see how it was for her. I heard from my mom that there were 2 doctors doing it, so she had 4 hands on her stomach trying to get the baby to turn. They told her that sometimes the baby goes back to being breech and if that happens, baby wins and they will do a c-section.
I guess we will soon find out. She has another appointment tomorrow to see if she is dilated at all.

Re: Anyone have experience with a breech baby?
DS was a frank footling breech. His head and one foot were up near my heart, his tush and other foot were at my cervix. I was not a candidate for an ECV (turning the baby). There was another woman who also had a breech baby in the waiting room with me at my obyn's office - she and I were due the same day. She had the EVC and said it was so painful - well the baby turned back to breech so she had the c/s too. I had a c/s with DS and a repeat c/s with DD who was transverse breech.

Oh my goodness! I had no idea a baby could be head and one foot on one end and tush and other foot on the other end. Almost like doing a split! It's amazing that we have the technology today to be able to get babies out and both baby and mommy are OK! You certainly were given more than your share of breech babies!

Ya know at almost 4 years old DS can do a really great split. I cannot believe I never put two and two together, but yes you are right.

Re: Anyone have experience with a breech baby?
I had an unstable lye... basically my girl was turning like crazy in the last weeks of pregnancy. At least every 2 days she was in a completely new position. She was breech, then in position, then transverse then back to position then breech again, etc. It kept changing.
I had a C Section. On the day of the c she was actually in position... but had I been induced there was a great chance she would turn out of position again and I'd end up with the c after x amt of hours in labor being induced. My dr did not want to even attempt to turn her though he did throw it out as an option.. he also said it was a bad option for me personally (given the height of DH and I, my GD, and the size they were expecting her to be).

Re: Anyone have experience with a breech baby?
DS was breech, was breech at a 28 week sono and never turned even with the ECV. I had a c/s at 39 weeks. I've heard the baby could still turn back after the ECV, but hopefully for her the baby will stay put!!

Re: Anyone have experience with a breech baby?
I had three transverse babies.
I went in for a version with Genevieve, but she had turned head down already on her own (38 weeks)
I was induced at 4 days past due date, and while my dr. was examining me, she turned sideways again.

Re: Anyone have experience with a breech baby?
When I was 36 weeks I think ds was breech and they tried to turn him 2x. Within seconds he went back both times. That was it-the dr wouldn't try again. I was lucky that he turned at 38 weeks on his own.

Re: Anyone have experience with a breech baby?
They attempted to turn my friend's baby (at 36 or 38 weeks, I can't remember), baby wouldn't budge. Then she went into labor that night and had her the next morning via C-section.

Re: Anyone have experience with a breech baby?
DD was breeched due to a fibroid that I had that was about the size of her head. The doctor didn't even bring up an inversion

Just like you would think with hands pushing you on your belly while someone else uses an ultra sound machine to make sure all is good on the inside. http://www.spinningbabies.com/

Re: Anyone have experience with a breech baby?
I may burn for this..
BREECH ALL THE WAY BABY! haha I was so freaking glad she was breech you have NO IDEA. I never ever under any circumstances wanted to go through a natural birth. Of course you really can't SAY that when you're preggo. Pfft. Bad manners, evil stares, etc.
Still my doctors never suggested manual adjustment. They said they were against it mostly as it usually was painful, wouldn't work and didn't matter if at the last second the baby turned. I had lots of fluid so she could do what she wanted.
She was breech at every visit.
They suggested she may turn and I bravely said "wow, that's great" while inside I was trembling in fear.
C/S happened and other than the 9hrs of labor pains because she got here a week earlier than her scheduled visit, I'd pick C/S again every single time!

Same here...he was breech was 29 weeks and never turned even after the ECV....although everyone (including doctors and nurses) said that babies know what to do and get into position so hopefully the baby is ready to go!
