Moms Did You Have a Breech Baby at 36 weeks
Hi Ladies,
I also posted on pregnancy but I figured many mom's may have had this experience in the past.
I am trying not to be a pessimist but at my 36 week sono and appointment yesterday we found out baby is Frank Breech. LO's butt is starting to descend. Doc wants me to go for a external cephalic version, where they try to turn baby. If its not successful then we have to prepare for the likelihood of a c-section. Has this happened to anyone? Did your baby turn? Any details, advice, experiences are really appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Moms Did You Have a Breech Baby at 36 weeks
My baby was breech, and stayed breech the last 2 months of my pregnancy.
I did not try to have him turned, nor was my OB in favor of it.
I was very upset when I found out I was having a scheduled C-section. I felt like I was missing out on something amazing. But in the end, the amazing thing was the birth of my son. How he was born was a moot point once I saw him.

Re: Moms Did You Have a Breech Baby at 36 weeks
At 36 weeks, DS #1 was still breech. I went for a consultation for a manual version and was told I wasn't a good candidate because of the location of the placenta. I then tried acupuncture to get him to turn. I definitely felt movement during it but he just never turned. I also frequented the website spinning babies to try different techniques to get him to turn. Nothing worked. I scheduled a C-section reluctantly and went into labor at 37 weeks 5 days. He was still breech so I had an emergency C-section.

Re: Moms Did You Have a Breech Baby at 36 weeks
My SIL is expecting her 2nd in about a week. At 37 weeks I believe they found the baby was breech.
They did the manipulation last week and were able to successfully turn the baby.
I will have to let you know if the baby stays put. If she doesn't have the baby on her own by Monday, they are inducing her.

Re: Moms Did You Have a Breech Baby at 36 weeks
I probably did have a breech baby at 36 weeks though I had not had a sonogram, and although I kept telling everyone I thought that the thing that kept pushing out by my ribs was a head, they all thought baby was just kicking really hard. At my 39 week appt they did a sono and saw he was breech.
We scheduled to do a version about 4 days later (4 days before my due date) - when I expressed concern about the pain, the dr/midwife said the doctor they had to do it was very good at it and it wouldn't be that bad. My water broke that night so it didn't matter anyway since they could not turn him once that happened.

Re: Moms Did You Have a Breech Baby at 36 weeks
DD decided to flip into a breech position at 36 weeks and never flipped back! I wasn't a fan of doing ECV, I felt like I didn't want to force her... if she was breech it was for a reason. However I did try acupuncture, moxibustion, ice near her head, music, flashlights,..everything to try to turn her!! lol! It didn't work, but the acupuncture was very relaxing!! I did end up having a CS, and we found that she had the cord all tangled up around her body, she must have been doing some crazy flips in there. I also have a heart shaped uterus which could have been a reason for her position.
Check out spinningbabies.com, for different ideas and 'exercises' that you can try to turn the baby.

Re: Moms Did You Have a Breech Baby at 36 weeks
Breech to the day she was born. My doctor was not a fan of 'flipping' the baby. Neither am I.
It was just fine. She was born C/S and it was wonderful. My only complaint was she came earlier than her appt and the doc I needed wasn't at the hospital until later so I was left in pain for 9hrs. After that, I am so glad it was c/s no way I could have pushed her out anyway. C/S was like 10mins and bam she's here.
Not sure if that helps or not!

Re: Moms Did You Have a Breech Baby at 36 weeks
My first was breech the whole time. I consulted with my OB over a version and decided it wasn't what I wanted to do. My OB said my baby was measuring large, that a version is painful and not always successful, and even if it is, there's a greater chance they will flip back to breech position. DS was born at 37 weeks via c/s at 9 lbs 7 oz!

DS was breech the whole time. Tried a version but it didn't work... scheduled C/S for 39 weeks 4 days and he was still breech.
Scheduled C/S was great...quick and easy.

Thanks Ladies..this is helpful....I am really curious why many of you were opposed to the version. My doc swears it is not harmful to the baby. Please let me know your feelings before I have it next week.

Re: Moms Did You Have a Breech Baby at 36 weeks
My baby was breech from 24 weeks on through the end....stubborn girl!
My Dr. was not a fan of the version because of the pain, risk of placental abruption and the fact that the baby could flip right back.

Re: Moms Did You Have a Breech Baby at 36 weeks
DS was a frank footling breech (so his tush and one foot was down) his head and other foot were near my heart. I was not a candidate for a version. DD was transverse breech. During my research I found that almost all of the doctors who recommended versions for their patients were the most successful for women that are on subsequent pregnancies where they successfully labored with prior deliveries, women weigh less than 140 lbs including the pregnancy weight and the baby was in a good position. I don't remember the website that I saw this info but I want to say it was in a science journal. The website spinning babies is a good one if you are thinking about it. I would trust what your obgyn says but know that it is painful, and not always successful. Good luck.

Re: Moms Did You Have a Breech Baby at 36 weeks
My son was head down and ready to go at 36 weeks when I had an amnio to see if his lungs were ready. I had preclampsia. 3 days later I went to be induced and they found out that he had flipped!!! He was now butt down! I remember feeling him flip - I was walking the dogs and felt him moving and I knew he was up to something!! He did a complete dive down.
My ob refused to even try a version. She said she doesn't do versions on first time moms. She said they are VERY painful and usually don't work anyway so, I had a c-section.

Re: Moms Did You Have a Breech Baby at 36 weeks
DS was breech the whole time. I tried a version at 37 weeks but it didn't work (I was glad I tried and it wasn't that bad for me). Had a scheduled CS at 39 weeks. I just had a sono on Monday at 32 weeks and DD is also breech in pretty much the exact same position as DS. I am pretty doubtful that she will turn as she has been in this position for 3+ weeks and I'm thinking there is a reason they were both in this position. I wouldn't consider a version this time around since it didn't work the first time (plus I kinda doubt they would even do it since I have already had a c/s). Looks like another c/s for me, so much for my VBAC

I chose not to do the version bc I didn't want to force the baby into position; I was afraid it would put the baby in distress and we would have to be rushed off for an emergency CS. I felt like there were gentler ways to help baby get into position. It just didn't feel right to me and I felt like there must be a reason why she's breech. I'm glad I didn't try it; I was told that the position she was in, and how she was so tangled in the cord, it wouldn't have worked anyways. But that was just my experience....it has worked out well for some mamas. I think you have to go with your gut...it's your choice... good luck!

DD was breech and we were considering the version but i didn't have enough fluids to try the version and ended up with an emergency section when the fluids got too low

Re: Moms Did You Have a Breech Baby at 36 weeks
My DS was frank breech. He was in the same position literally the whole pregnancy. I tried lights, yoga, hypnosis, ice, music, he wouldn't move for anything. My doctor was against a version bc the reasons cited by the pp's. I was scheduled for a CS, but ended up with an emergency CS when I went into labor. The CS was not ideal to me, but everything worked out fine. Whatever happens, all that matters is that your LO is here and healthy!

Re: Moms Did You Have a Breech Baby at 36 weeks
DS was transverse breech. I used a midwife and it's not common practice for them to turn the baby, so I asked her about chiropractic to turn him. I found a chiro that specialized in it (can't remember the name of the procedure), but it's slight fingertip adjustments. I went 3x a week and he turned within a few treatments, but I continued to go until 38 weeks so he wouldn't turn back. The chiro said my pelvis is tilted (from a previous accident) which is probably why DS was breech, it was more comfortable for him that way.
ETA: I would seriously consider seeing a chiro that specialized in this if you don't want a c-section.

Re: Moms Did You Have a Breech Baby at 36 weeks
I had version done at about 37 weeks, took all of a minute and a half, didn't hurt at all (definitely felt weird!) and was successful. And DD stayed put!

Re: Moms Did You Have a Breech Baby at 36 weeks
Both of my kids were breech. My daughter was in this strange position and never came out of it. My son was Frank's breech. He turned at 37 weeks. Believe me I knew he turned!!! I spent some time in this weird position that someone told me about and he turned. I got down on the floor dropped my forehead to floor elbows bent to floor on my knees with my butt in the air. It's probably some yoga position, I have no idea, but it worked for him.
Honestly I would really think about the version. Having been through 2 c-sections I would not do the version. C-sections are not horrific as many think. I was petrified with my first and it was fine.
Good luck. FM if you have questions.

Re: Moms Did You Have a Breech Baby at 36 weeks
My DS was breach until my 38 week appointment... I knew he was because I had a ball right by my rib cage... And I could feel the kicks so low I thought a foot was going to come right out! I also felt him flip... He was so big it hurt! So there is still hope!
