Kids clothes for a wedding
My niece is getting married next month and my kids are all going too. It's an afternoon ceremony & evening/night reception. My DD is flowergirl so that's taken care of. My 8 1/2 yr old is bringing up the gifts with other cousins so he will wear a suit at the church but I think he will be miserable in it for the reception so I'd like to get something else for him to wear.
So what can he wear? What about my 5 yr old DS, he doesn't have any other duties except to show up & party.
Honestly I don't even know where to look...they haven't ever had the need in the past to get dressed up past a polo shirt in the summer.
ETA: What about a seersucker suit? Too casual or daytime for an evening wedding? Could DS #1 wear it for the gift part at the church? I was going to get his Communion suit from last year alterered to lengthen the sleeves and pants and that's a dark suit and will be pretty hot in August.

Re: Kids clothes for a wedding
I didn't have a big wedding, nor have I attended many weddings, so I am not quite sure of all of the formalities, but I don't see a problem with your younger DS wearing a nice (no wash wear, etc.) navy blue polo and a pair of nice khaki pants to both the wedding and the reception. You could bring a change of clothes for your older DS to change into at the reception. I'd also go with the nice polo/khakis. Not sure about the seersucker suit- I LOVE seersucker, but I immediately think outdoor/spring, early in the day wedding. The more formal suit would look much nicer as the wedding is being held in a church, but I completely understand about him being more comfortable in the seersucker. What color is it? Would you then have him wear it to the reception as well?

Re: Kids clothes for a wedding
I wouldn't do a seersucker suit for an evening wedding. Also subbing one suit for another suit but a different kind doesn't alleviate the fact that your son is still in a suit & will probably be miserable anyway, kwim?
I would probably dress the boys the same (you can get a suit for like $30 in Sears).
If it were me (and I've been there with a suit complaining kid too) I'd do both suits, ties & jackets for church & tell them they can take off the jacket after the bride & groom are announced. The tie they can take off when it's time to eat.
edited to add:
I also think a dark suit is fine for a church but I'd probably coordinate with the mom of the other kid who is helping with the gifts so my son isn't in a suit & her kid is dressed in khakis.

Re: Kids clothes for a wedding
I like the idea of a polo and khakis as well but if you want something a bit more formal Burlington has great prices for a 3 piece suit set generally under $25. You may find something light enough that they look a bit dressier in or worse case you do the suit and do a short sleeve button down so at the reception they take off the jackets and its a bit more comfortable. In the end, they will be running around and all descheveled by the end of the night.

Re: Kids clothes for a wedding
I bought a 4 piece set at Lord and Taylor for my 5 year old when I had DD#2's christening. It came with pants, shirt, vest and a tie. I didn't like the color shirt it came with so I bought a different one in a print but when I buttoned it he complained that the collar was bother him. I think he needed to wear a toddler 5 instead of a boys 5. L&T is always having a great sales and I got that set which is Nautica and the shirt for $30!
This is how he ended up wearing it because of the tie and collar which I think would be ok.

Re: Kids clothes for a wedding
When my sister got married last summer, we chose not to put A in a suit, although we had one for him. I got him a navy blazer from Syms (and it came out to only $7.50, holy score!), a pair of dress khaki pants (more of a silken material than a canvas material, if you kwim) and a short sleeve dress shirt and tie. He was full assembled for pics, etc. but at the reception that night, he was able to take off the jacket and tie and still looked presentable.
A doesn't complain much though. He does wear a uniform every day to school too, including tie, so it wasn't a stretch for him. Do what's most comfy for the boys!

Re: Kids clothes for a wedding
I love the pics posted! So cute!! Thank you for the feedback. I called both my SIL's about what their boys would be wearing to bring the gifts (I didn't even think of that - DUH) and neither is doing khakis but are wearing a dark suit and the other is wearing dark pants & shirt, maybe a jacket if her neighbor lends her one. I started looking on line bc I really don't want to start messing with his Communion suit so my younger guy can hopefully wear it in a few yrs. I like the idea of both boys dressed the same and found a few places, Sears had a 4 piece dockers set for my younger son for $12.99. Then they can take the vest and tie off later. Dishelved will definitely be happening at some point!
