Re: Deer Park
What kind of things do you want to know? I just moved here last year with my husband. My husband grew up in Deer Park and loved it. A lot of his friends have gotten married and if they moved away have moved back.
The school district I have heard positive things about. Some of our friends who have kids in the schools I have never heard complain. They have a lottery to get into the district Universal PreK, but I heard everyone gets in. It is not a huge district. Which I like, I came from Pat-Med and I graduated with 600 kids. So, I am glad the girls will graduate with less.
It is the town of Babylon, so they have the beach passes for $35 for the summer. So, you can get into all the Babylon Beaches and also the Children's Spray parks. They also have a lot of concerts over the summer that are a lot of fun.
Deer Park is right by the outlets.

Re: Deer Park
I live in West Babylon now and other than going to various places in Deer Park, I don't know anything about the town or schools.
We are looking at some housing options there. Last night we were in the west numbered streets over by May Moore school.
I have a daughter entering KG this year and my son will be in full-time prek at the school he was at last year...so I would need public schools sooner than later.
As a teacher myself, I never really heard anything "bad" about Deer Park.
What are considered the nicer areas there?

Re: Deer Park
I grew up in Deer Park although a lot has changed since I was there. I grew up on the west side (numbered streets) and went to May Moore myself.
The town itself has become much more diversified since I was there. It is more of a blue collar community. A lot of people I went to school with still live there. Everyone is very happy with the schools. I have heard that the programs they have for special needs children are excellent. My aunt teaches in N. Babylon and says that Deer Park schools far exceed N. Babylon in every aspect. When I was there, they seemed comparable.
Deer Park has a nice central location with easy access to highways. As someone else said, its TOB so you can go to all of the nice town beaches with the pass.
In terms of what are the "nicer" areas, IMO, I would look over in the northeast corner, like between Nicholls and Old Country closer to Commack Road. It's nice there. Some areas on the west side were nice (I personally think the section between LI Ave. and Grand Blvd. is a nicer area even though it's closer to the tracks). There are also some cul-de-sacs off of Westview Ave. and that's nice too. There are some really nice areas over by Robert Frost Middle School as well.
ETA: I just saw you live in W. Babylon now. I think they are pretty comparable towns in terms of demographics.

Re: Deer Park
I live in Deer Park but we are in the Half Hollow Hills Schools. There are a few hundred houses that fall into this category- We are fortunate to have one of the best school districts on LI but live in an affordable community. Houses are no more expensive than those that are in the DP school district. I would highly reccomend looking at this option. There are a few houses for sale nearby.
As far as the Deer Park schools, I have three nieces who attended and I also did my student teaching there- I deliberately chose to live in another school district. Good Luck:)

Re: Deer Park
My brother lives in the area of Deer Park right by that school. He has lived there for a long time. My nieces went to private elementary school because my SIL was a teacher there, but went to the Deer Park middle and HS and both did very well. My niece recently graduated from DPHS and got a very good scholarship to college. She took many AP & college level courses that were offered and is entering college with soph. status.

Re: Deer Park
We moved to Deer Park within the last year and I love it. Great central location and close to plenty of shopping, freeways, and parks. We are renting right now, but when we are in the position to buy we will definitely consider staying in Deer Park.
Hi Corrie! We're neighbors, but I always run into you online!!!
