Where will the baby sleep when they come home?

We plan to have the baby sleep in our bedroom at night in her bassinet....and I'm thinking during the day in the den/living room in her rock-n-play sleeper, or if she falls asleep in her swing. We opted not to get a pack-n-play.

Would you use the crib during the day??

At one of the baby classes we took the instructor recommended keeping day and night sleeping locations different to help the baby associate between DAY & NIGHT.....which made sense.

For example - let the baby get used to the bassinet at night time and they associate night time with the bassinet and they get familiar to one thing. And then have something else for daytime napping like the rock-n-play sleeper, or a pack-n-play.

What do you think? What will you be doing?

This sounds like a great idea. I was thinking that we'd have the baby in the bassinet at night and in the pack & play during the day. That's what my sister did and it seemed to work well for her.

Re: Where will the baby sleep when they come home?

Probably will have her nap in the Rock n Play or swing/bouncer (wherever she falls asleep) during the day.

I'm going to try to put her in the crib at night right away or somewhat early and see how it is.

I know you should show the difference between night or day, but I think you can do that other ways too: keep windows open/light during the day, tv/radio on or talking so she/he is used to sound...during the night keep everything dark and quiet.

We plan on having DD in the bedroom with us in the rock and play sleeper during the night. For the daytime I am thinking the swing, bouncer, pack and play...wherever she is comfortable. But i agree with keeping the daytime and nightime sleep places separate.

Re: Where will the baby sleep when they come home?

We had our son sleep in his crib in his room at night from the very beginning. During the day, he slept in the pack n play or the swing, both in our living room. When he was about 4 or 5 months old, we started transitioning him to the crib for naps. This all worked out great for us, and we plan to do the same with this baby!

The plan is the rock-n-play sleeper. That's what we did with DS #1.

Re: Where will the baby sleep when they come home?

Thanks ladies!! Helps to know others are trying/doing the same thing. Kinda nervous with her being our 1st!

DD room is literally steps from ours and originally I was all for starting her right out in the crib but part of me wants her close by at first to check on her through the night.

Rock n play in our room, but crib will be set up. DH snores and keeps me up, if he is keeping DS up, he is going right to the crib.

Baby will sleep in his crib from day one at night.

I would like him to sleep there for naps as well but I have a feeling he will end up napping in his swing or Rock n Play.

Re: Where will the baby sleep when they come home?

DD slept in her crib from day one, worked out great.

DS slept in the PNP bassinet in our room until 3 months. I was more worried about him for some reason.

Chat Icon not sure, either of the above depending on how we feel when we get home from the hospital.

For the first few months, during the day they slept in the swing, in the crib or while laying on one of us. When they got into a regular nap schedule (around 4 months?), they went into the crib.

Re: Where will the baby sleep when they come home?

Chat Icon (baby #1) slept in a co-sleeper in our room for the first three months. Initially it was because I was breast feeding and it was much easier to have him at arm's reach. Even after we discontinued BF I kept him next to me. I found it easier and more comfortable to have him with us. With him we were in an apartment so we would roll the co-sleeper out into the living room so he could sleep there. I plan on the same night routine with Chat Icon but since we're now in our house we'll use the Pack N Play for daytime sleeping.

We had the baby in her crib, in her own room from Day 1. For daytime sleeping/naps, we use the pack and play or her swing. Not only do I like her to differentiate the day/night sleeping places, I don't want to carry her up and down the stairs excessively...have a great fear of falling with her in my arms!

Re: Where will the baby sleep when they come home?

during the day probably the pack and play (if she's at work with me) or the bouncer seat and swing at home and at night she will be in our room in the bassinet.

At night time the pack and play and during the day probably the swing or pack and play again.

Re: Where will the baby sleep when they come home?

Crib from night 1...our room and DC's room are RIGHT next to each other, like in the same step I can be out of my room and into LO's room. Besides, there's not enough room in our bedroom for a bassinet or anything

during the day I'm hoping baby likes the swing, or something like that to sleep in

Re: Where will the baby sleep when they come home?

At first the baby will be in the room with us either in a bassinet or the rock n play. The baby's room is on the complete opposite end of the house and I hope to BF so I want him close by for the night. During the day I'll have him nap either in his crib or whatever he falls asleep in.

Re: Where will the baby sleep when they come home?

They will be sleeping in their cribs at night and in the swings or chairs in the LR during the day. I too believe in separation of night n day sleeping places. Worked with DD.

Re: Where will the baby sleep when they come home?

co-sleeper at night (crib that attaches to side of parents bed on moms side, easier to nurse and tend to during the night and promotes better sleeping habits)

prob swing and rock and play thingy during the day..

Re: Where will the baby sleep when they come home?

Daytime: DD tends to fall asleep in her boppy next to me on the couch. She always HATED the bouncer and swing. Though she's warning up to it now at 2.5 months.

Night: she went straight to the crib from the first night

I think I want to try to ebf so the baby will be in a cradle in our bedroom at night on my side of the bed.

During the day I figured the baby will sleep in either one of those papasan bouncers, in the pack and play, in a swing, or in my arms. I'm not sure what we are going to buy yet for the house but whatever we get that he/she falls alseep in we'll use.

Like someone else said there are other cues for day and night so I'm not too worried about it.

I'm more worried about transitioning to the crib. I think I'll be a wreck when that happens Chat Icon But I still have plenty of time to worry about all of these things! Chat Icon

Re: Where will the baby sleep when they come home?

we always put my Chat Icon in his crib from day 1. PNP for naps during the day because that's downstairs where we were.

We'll be doing the same with Chat Icon
