Who else besides OSHA would handle this?
My DH is a NYC employee working in a NYC building. Besides the fact that there is sewage and rats in the basement of the building, which is also where the gym and showers are, the A/C in their building still has NOT been turned on once, even on the 100+ days we have had. The building has no windows either so they can't even open the windows for any type of fresh air. There is also a terrible mold problem in the offices and main areas that apparently OSHA is aware of and nothing has been done.
It blows my mind that these cops are forced to work in these conditions
Does anyone have any advice or suggestions? I told DH I am calling "7 on your side" But he said that is the last thing they need because there are undercover cops that work in the building and you definitely don't want their faces caught on TV. I can't believe that besides detectives, there are higher ranks working in the building and still nothing has been done.

Re: Who else besides OSHA would handle this?
Just have to keep filing complaints with OSHA & the dept of labor. OSHA's a little backlogged & under funded these days what with oil spills, mine cave ins and such.

I'd say the union, and if anyone in his pct belongs to one of those smaller groups like 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement.
ETA: What's that number city residents can call with complaints about heat and stuff in their apartments, 311? They might cover places of employment too.

Re: Who else besides OSHA would handle this?
I would write to both senators, and make it clear on each of their letters that you sent it to both. I used to intern for Hillary Clinton answering constituent letters, and we actually did read and handle every single letter that came in. I was told that letters referred by her were answered faster than those sent directly to the agencies themselves. We were also always told to prioritize the letters where the other senator (at that point Chuck Schumer) was cc'd, because I guess she didn't want him to be the one that helped or claimed the victory, or something like that. (I know, it sounds kind of weird, but this is my experience.)

I work in the same conditions and if you complain you bring more problems to where you work and could be transferred. I know it sucks but this is how the NYPD runs.

You mentioned mold & sewage, so you could try the DEP.

I am a NYC employee and was just at our manditory OSHA/PESH class yesterday. He should not be working in those conditions for any reason whatsoever!!
If he is a city employee the NYC version of OSHA is PESH
Here is the website PESH
Also here is the fact sheet with instructions to file
fact sheet
Good luck!

You can do it anonymously. There are laws covering this. No one should be forced to work like this!

Yes, they can refer to the health dept for inspections and eventually the building landlord (NYC in this case) would get fined if there are violations.
