how much for babysitters
I posted this under parenting too...
Hi everyone, We are starting to look for someone to watch my (not yet born) 3 month old when I go back to work from 7-2 Mon-Friday in their home. A good friend of mine suggested a friend of hers who has a child and stays home with her. She was a teacher and has worked in a day care before.
The problem is I have no idea of what a fair rate is per hour. What do you pay people who aren't related to you?
EDIT: PLEASE post what you ACTUALLY pay not what you would. I'm trying to get a feel for the real market
THANK YOU!

Re: how much for babysitters
I'd expect to pay anywhere from 12 to 18/hour for someone to come to me. So, I guess the lower end if you are bringing your child to someone else's home.

Re: how much for babysitters
We are paying $20 per hour, shes coming to my house, working some weekends and sometimes staying late. We are paying top $ b/c she is willing to be SUPER flexible w/ our crazy schedules. My twin will be 15 months when she starts. Its worth every penny!!!!

yes it's $40 for a whole day (8 hours) or $20 for a 1/2 day.

Re: how much for babysitters
My cousin watches 2 girls, goes to their home, and gets $12/hour. I'd say if it's a one on one situation where the person will not be watching any other children you will probably have to pay on the higher end. If she's running a day care in her home the rate would probably be cheaper.

Re: how much for babysitters
I still do a lot of babysitting to pay the bills.
I usually get $10/hour on the low end (or around $8 if it's a lot of hours and I know they don't have the money)
But I have gone to $20/hour BUT that also included keeping the house clean and the laundry to a minamum.
I have always driven to them and been willing to take the kids to practices/aquariums/libraries. SO it really depends on what you want from your sitter.

yes it's $40 for a whole day (8 hours) or $20 for a 1/2 day.
This when i was much younger/early teen. You can pay less for a much younger sitter, but usually is its a 40 hours/week job, they need more. Can't live on $200 a week.
