Re: Circumsizing - not as popular?

We have a DS coming in the next 6 days and DH and I have always been agreed that we would circumsize him. Both of my brother are uncircumsized and they had nothing but issues with it and even DH's brother had issues with it too and ended up getting circumcized at 16. It has nothing to do with 'looking like DH', it more of a hygiene issue for our reasoning.

Re: Circumsizing - not as popular?

my dh isn't, but he insisted ds be... not for any reason other than he's a physician and he claims he has enough medical reasons to do it.

I was more opposed than for ... but for my family it was a huge deal (jewish circumcision) ... for my parents enormous deal since they didn't have any sons.. so we did it...

but honestly, if DH didn't have this medical background and my parents where so crazy, we probably not do it. Its an unnecessary medical procedure in my book.

I feel that from reading LIF it should be becoming LESS common BUT everyone I know IRL has it done, including my own family members who are NOT

did that make sense? lol

We did. DH had to get a circumcision later in life and it was extremely painful and for a long time after the procedure

Re: Circumsizing - not as popular?

We didn't nor would we ever. I view it as entirely cosmetic and I wouldn't put a child through surgery to remove a normal part of their anatomy. I feel like the decision should be left to the person the penis is attached to. Chat Icon

Re: Circumsizing - not as popular?

Do families really dictate if their relatives should be circumsized or not? That is just bizarre to me. I guess it's one thing if it's a religious tradition, but the topic of penis' doesn't even come up in my family. I would never tell my kids that they have to circumsize their son. It's none of my business really. In fact, it's not even something that I would even think of bringing up with my friends.

I have 3 sons, all circumsized, all covered by BCBS. It never occured to me to NOT do it.

We didn't:

DH is not (as well as quite a few people I knew growing up).

We didn't see a medical need for it & DH believes that it is a very innervated sensitive area that would decrease sexual pleasure if removed.

I couldn't argue with that :)

Same here. We have two boys.

Re: Circumsizing - not as popular?

We chose not to...some people agree with us, some dont...who cares, ur kid, ur decisons. We did countless hours of research and found no medical or hygiene reasons at alll.... to each their own....but it wasn;t a hard decision for us in the long run...and at 4 months im so happy we didn't do it

Re: Circumsizing - not as popular?

DS was circumcised and I had no issues with it. Well I felt really bad when they took him to get it done, but he was fine when he came back to the room and I was glad it was done. DH made the decision. If I were to have another son, I would do it again. This being said, I never had an issue with uncircumcised penis. I never discriminated.

Re: Circumsizing - not as popular?

If we have any boys they will not be circumcised (my parents may fall over dead but they'll need to deal)Chat Icon We feel it is an elective/cosmetic procedure that is not without possible complications

I think the parent with the penis, who has penis experience and expertise should make that call.

Not. With the trend heading towards not having it done, we hope to avoid the teasing of having it done.

Plus, we could find zero medical reasons to do it, so for us, it's purely elective surgery.

Same here. Most of my family lives in Europe and could not believe that it is just "done" as often as it is here. Neither son is circumcised.

Did anyone just get a really weird FM from someone named StacyStack? I didn't even post on this thread and I got an FM from her regarding circumcision.

Re: Circumsizing - not as popular?

in the hospital we opted not to - mainly because we didn't feel prepared enough to make the irreversible decision (we didn't know we were having a boy).

Plan was to research and than circ if the research showed it was worthwhile, but the research wasn't convincing enough, so he remains uncut.

I understand why people circ, and I would've guessed that we would too. But I'm content with our choice (and hope future girlfriends will be too, or he can remain a mama's boy his whole life which is fine too Chat Icon ). I just had a hard time with the idea that our perfect newborn son should be cut (though I know that would have been more traumatic for me than for him).
