welcome packages for new teachers

I am in charge of putting together a welcome gift for new teachers this year. In the past they did a coffee mug and a little bag of stuff with a poem...a rubber band for flexibility, etc. I found a great sale on amazon for stainless steel water bottles. What else would you find nice/useful (and inexpensive)! Teachers are K-12... Do you think the baggie of stuff is silly? I am leaning towards not doing it, but need something other than water bottles!

I think it is great your school does this!

I think an "emergency kit" is a good idea. A teacher at my school did it for her student teacher. She included thigs like a lint brush, a small sewing kit, mouthwash, bandaids, headache meds, etc. All the things you may need throughout a normal teaching day but never thought to have on hand.

The teacher loved it.

Someone gave me a copy of that book-"The First Days of School" by Rosemary Wong and I think it is a great book for new teachers! Also maybe a copy of "Teach Like a Champion"?

A laminated list of important phone numbers and emails might be a nice gesture too!

our PTA does it for the entire staff every year. there's always a water bottle, granola bar, and an apple in it. Pencils, erasers, post-its, plus things like that.
