My almost 5 yr old had his Kindergarten/5 yr old checkup...
and about 4-5 hours later he was not feeling well. His body and head hurt, arm and leg hurt, he's so tired that he napped which he never does, shaking from being cold and then so far threw up twice and has had a fever. I called the nurse and she said that he probably caught something from the dr office! I don't think so. My son was perfectly fine all morning and before his appt. and then now he's not. It's obviously from all the shots he got for Kindergarten. He got the MMR, Chicken Pox, Tetanus, Polio, etc. 3 shots total since they combine them now. He has never had such a reaction to them??? This is the first time? He's so pitiful. He even had to miss meet the teacher night tonight since he's so sick. He could barely move!

Ugh, that is terrible! I'm so sorry! Hope he feels better soon! On a side note, I CANNOT b/v the peds are giving kids THAT many shots - live virus ones too - all in one visit

My daughter had her appt on Monday. She only got 2 boosters...I think they said tetnus and DTAP?
Her arm is red and a little swollen...other than that she is fine.
Hopefully he feels better soon!

That is a ton of shots for one visit. I know hindsight is 20/20 but I would demand they split those up. It sounds like he was behind in some shots though. Personally I advocate splitting shots into multiple visits. I don't let my kids get more than 2 shots in one visit and if it is a live vaccine then only the one shot. My own ped said he did the same thing for his kids.

I totally agree, but it's hard to split them up if they are necessary for admission into K.
I think this is one of the issues with delaying/splitting up shots - unless you really keep on top of it, issues can arise when it's time for school. Although I didn't think there were any shots at 4yo visit which would give you enough time to make up any you missed/skipped/delayed, no?

Re: My almost 5 yr old had his Kindergarten/5 yr old checkup...
He actually was not behind on any shots. We get them done like clockwork since he was born. I was surprised he only got 3 since my older son when he got his, it was 5-6 shots for Kindergarten. I'm in NC so I don't know if that's any different. It was 5 different vaccines in 3 shots. They've just combined them recently.
He also isn't doing much better today. He STILL has a fever and threw up again last night all over.
ETA: My older son didn't have a reaction like this at all.
I also didn't think he would get a Chicken pox again since he had it when he was 1 yr old and has had his Polio vaccinations as scheduled too?

Re: My almost 5 yr old had his Kindergarten/5 yr old checkup...
If he is throwing up, it sounds like he did catch something somewhere.
When DS had his 5 year well visit I believe he only received 2 physical shots. I know one was under his skin and I had to make sure it didn't change and another one was a combo shot and that was it.
I hope he feels better

I think the chicken pox could have waited until a later visit. Here you only need to have had 1 to enter school, and a booster in middle school I think, but your state might be different.
