Anybody taking a flight out on Sunday
Wondered if you have contacted the airline and what they say about flying out of NY.
Thanks.

Re: Anybody taking a flight out on Sunday
We are supposed to and I'm worried. We are flying continental and they are not allowing changes without fees right now. It's too early to tell I guess. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't cause issues. I want to go on vacation!!!

I called Southwest and they said to check their website. They just put this up:
Hurricane Irene
Southwest Airlines is closely monitoring the tropical weather conditions surrounding Hurricane Irene. At this time, we are operating our scheduled service to/from all Southwest Cities. We will post additional updates to this page if we anticipate operational disruptions.

Re: Anybody taking a flight out on Sunday
I'm flying back to NY on Sunday on Continental.
I am mad that they haven't waived the change fees yet!!!
Luckily, I had some miles so I was able to book a return ticket on Saturday for $77.50 for now (since I'm going away with friends and I need to get back to DS).

That is good. Still don't know what I should do. If I change my flight to Saturday, I would need a place to stay then. Ugghhh...don't know what to do.

Re: Anybody taking a flight out on Sunday
I think you should switch your ticket you HAVE an option to get out. I think if you don't go you are taking a huge risk that you aren't going to get there at all. Especially since most everything says that we will feel effects as of Sat night. Remember even thunderstorms cause delays and cancellations, so it doesn't matter if it is a hurricane or TS - the airlines won't want to strand their planes in NY and risk getting them damaged.

There are no flights available on Saturday and only 2 before mine so not sure if that will help.
I think I might wait it out another day as it hasn't even hit land yet.

Re: Anybody taking a flight out on Sunday
Yeah I think most people probably have already changed their flights by now which is why nothing is available. You have to jump on the opportunity when it arrives.
I'm sorry Just keep you will get out.

Good luck with Continental. We were supposed to fly out 2 days after that blizzard 12/26 last year and it was a friggen nightmare. Worst customer service ever. The moment they start canceling flights (even if yours isn't) get on the phone with them. I was on hold for 4 hours only to have a nasty woman say, "nothing I can do for you, you're stuck here for an extra week."
ETA. Meanwhile, we flew Virgin Atlantic earlier that year and they canceled flights before a blizzard we had in February hit and when I called them about it I was on hold 10 minutes, switched my flight to the next day, was given a seat upgrade, and then was able to push my return flight back a day too so that I could spend the same amount of time on vacation. No questions, no extra charges, and the guy was super polite and nice about it.
