How to answer salary questions in an interview?
I have an interview tomorrow and don't want to shoot myself in the foot if money is discussed. I know not to raise this topic but if the interviewee does (what are your salary expectations and or what is your current salary) how do you answer? Tia!

I always try to state the range I am looking for rather then giving an exact amount. And I try to ask them the salary range offered FIRST so they cant ask me LOL... I like to put THEM on the spot..

And what has your response been to that, may I ask? I'm not looking for you to tell me figures of course but I mean how did they react to that? How did you raise it? I always thought it was inappropriate for those questions to be initiated from me but maybe I'm wrong.
The thing is that I am so miserable at my job that I'd be willing to even take a small pay cut for this one. Not that I am rolling in it, but I don't want to tell them my current salary only to learn that my current salary is more than they were looking to pay.

Well I def. wouldnt ask the salary as my first question, but usually towards the end if salary hasnt been discussed and they ask me for questions..I ask more about the position but then I will say "May I ask what the salary range for this position is" etc.. And I have never gotten a negative response.. They are always forthcoming with that information as long as it doesnt seem like the only reason Im there is about $.
If they ask my salary I have no problem telling them what I make, and I once read that if U have good benefits u can kind of add that to ur salary. Like lets say u make 45 but you have fab benefits u can mention that ur base salary is 45K but with insurance u make about 55K etc.. I find this helpful when ur trying for a job at a much higher range of pay.

I had an issue with this recently.
I applied for a job in my old business field (not teaching, as everyone knows I'm looking for now.)
I had a phone interview that I thought went great. I was asked my salary requirements and I answered with a generous range.
Since it was through an agency, I was able to get feedback. I found out that
I priced myself out of the job.
At first I was upset, then I realized that my range was very wide and if they couldn't meet it, I probably didn't want the job anyway.
I guess my point is ask yourself the lowest you will go and then make that the bottom of your range.

I say " in the ballpark of x, but it really depends on the positions - duties , benefits, the whole package. "
