Another running question!
Do you run everyday!? Or do you take breaks during the week? I thought I heard its not good on your knees, ankles and feet. Im running a 5 k at this point but want to train for a half marathon. How often can you train?

Re: Another running question!
I always aimed for 4 days, but honestly I mostly do 3! Its probably better to do 4...but I got through training for the NYC Marathon last year just doing 3 days a week. I cross train on other days though, mostly elliptical and also classes at my gym.

Re: Another running question!
I run only 3-4 times a week (more like 4) and have trained for a half marathon in less than 12 weeks. My Half is in 2 weeks! I am so ready!
On my "off" days I usually walk or do some other type of activity. Sometimes Insanity DVDs, pilates DVDs, or Yoga. I just bought an elliptical for my home gym so I am starting to do that once a week.
There ARE people who run every day. it would just be too much on my joints. I've had knee injuries from high school sports that have never completely gone away, so every other day works best for me.

Re: Another running question!
I run 3-4 times a week, more like 4 times a week. Usually Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday (longer run). Sometimes I will hop on the elliptical (at home) if my knee is bothering me (also a problem I have had since high school).
To help strengthen my knee I am incorporating weights to my work outs and I try to do that after my runs 2 times a week or 2 times a week on my off days.
I do know people who run everyday but there was a period of time where I was running 5-6 days a week and I hurt my knee pretty bad. I find 3-4 is a happy place for me to stay injury free.

Re: Another running question!
I'm training for a half and I run 3 times a week--1 long run, 1 speed training, and 1 medium pace shortish run. The other three days I do weight training/cardio and take 1 day off. This is according to a schedule designed for people training for halves.

Re: Another running question!
per month I probably take 3 days off. Running keeps me sane. I am a be-otch if i don't. Probably should rest more often for the sake of my knees though.

I shoot for 4 days a week. I would like to do 5-6, but it's hard to find the time.

Re: Another running question!
I've been doing 2-3 times a week, but I've been pushing myself pretty hard and easily get shin splints so I need at least 2 days off in between runs. After my 10/1 race, I'm going to ease up a bit to give my shins a break and build up more slowly. I'd like to get to 4 times a week and try to do swimming, spinning, or yoga 1-2 times a week. It'll take me awhile to get there without injuring myself.

Re: Another running question!
I typically run 4-5 days a week. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tuesday and Thursday are my days with my trainer. If I'm not running I do the elliptical.
