babies around 6 months old

Does anyones baby still have a problem with their hands when they sleep? If he comes out of his wrap, his hands wake him up. If he is laying with me, his hands are all over my face and hands...but if I gently hold his hands down for him, he will settle and go to sleep.

I thought he should have outgrown this by nowChat Icon

The girls (5.5 months) go to bed on their bellies. I think it helped when we initially stopped swaddling and moved them to the crib.

DD is almost 7 months, she does the same thing. I give her a lovey to cuddle with and it keeps her little hands busy!

We never swaddled. When Declan is out his hands are still. But when he is tired he grabs at my face and pinches. I think he is trying to stay awake.

We never swaddled. Jackson HATED it. He moves around soooo much though so that probably had something to do with it, lol. Sometimes he does wake himself up from his hands moving, but he just goes right back to sleep. He started sleeping on his belly suddenly one night, and I don't think he's woken himself because of his hands once since then. He's rolled himself into a corner and gotten stuck, but that's another story....Chat Icon Chat Icon

DD is 5.5 months old and YES!! It has also taken her almost 2 weeks to realize that when she rolls on to her stomach she can put her head down and doesn't have to prop herself up like we practice in tummy time. I would watch her roll over on the monitor and then all of a sudden she was up and looking around....no matter how deeply she was sleeping a moment before.

That was annoying!

Re: babies around 6 months old

yes, we are dealing with this right now! We've just starting getting rid of the swaddle at night because she is a rolling fool!! She has been improving a little each night. we're using a sleep sack. usually she is just tired when it's bedtime that she passes right out . sometimes she rolls over onto her belly and will stay asleep but her hands definitely still get in her way! she did so much better when swaddled but it's just not safe anymore Chat Icon

Re: babies around 6 months old

DS1 i swaddled until 7 months because of this. I used to do a loose swaddle b/c he really just needed the swaddle to get from my arms to the bed. Once he was in the crib, he was fine and breaking out of the swaddle wouldnt wake him.

DS2 seems to be okay with it so I stopped swaddling at 4 months.

Only other advice...rock until about to fall asleep then into the crib "awake" and let lo cry if need be. I did this with DS2 he would cry/whine/complain on an off for 30 minutes then pass out.

Re: babies around 6 months old

DD usually stays on her back and her arms are either straight up or at her sides..she hated her arms being in the swaddle for a long time so I guess she had time to deal with her arms and for me not to be nervous about them...
