Yes they did. According to what my kindergartener told me, the teacher read a book about 9/11-- "bad people flew airplanes into two towers, and brave heroes rushed in to save the people". Clearly the teacher glossed over the thousands of casualties, which I think is appropriate considering the age group. Then my DS said they talked a lot about heroes, and who each child's hero is, etc.

I was very pleased with how it was discussed. I confess I had never told him about it, and we ended up having a really good talk about it based on what they learned at school.

It was not covered at DS's school but this year we went to the memorial. I just told him that some bad men did some bad things and lots of people were heroes and tried to help. I don't really think he "got it" at all.

Re: did your kindergarteners learn about 9/11

My DS is in Kindergarten and I didn't think his teacher spoke ab it until the morning of 9/11 and stuff was on the am news, he looked at me and said, "Mommy that is the world trade center. Some bad guys crashed planes into them because they didn't like America.. but don't worry Mom, they are rebuilding them very soon" I agreed and then balled in the next room. He then said his teacher told them bc all of the children were talking about it and asking her questions. I think she did the right thing.
