Camcorder

Hi! I feel so dumb. I am pretty good with technology but I've never bought a camcorder before. I dont even know what they are called.... video camera?

anyway, we're looking for one to make DVDs and to upload to the computer. I'm not really interested in the flip.

The cameras I find online dont look like they have a spot to put the dvd. Can anyone explain this to me? How would i get my video onto a dvd?

Also- if you have any recommendations- i would appreciate it!

They make camcorders that record straight to a DVD but they aren't so popular because they are big. There are a few different kinds, the one I have has a memory card (like a digital camera.) You upload the video onto the computer then burn it on a disc. We have the Toshiba Camileo & I love it. It's pretty easy to use & I think the quality is great. I bought it for DH's birthday while I was pregnant & I had DD the next week (4 weeks early) so it was good timing.

I know you said you don't like the flip but we got the new flip miniHD and it's awesome. I use it way more than our camcorder, which I believe is a sony. You'll have a hard time finiding one that records directly to DVD.

How many hours can you record w the flip and can you transfer it to DVD? I just didnt want the flip because I thought it was only for posting on youtube?

We have a Sony that records straight to a DVD (the smaller dvd's) and its pretty compact. That being said, we hardly ever use it, I use my flip more.

I think the flip has 2 hrs worth of time on it, then you upload them to the flip program on the computer and the 2 hrs starts again. I thought it wasn't going to be enough time but I've taken tons of videos and it all only added up to 30 mins!
