Off Topic....Nook vs. Kindle
I am so used to talking to my fellow parents so I decided to post here....which one would you recommend and why?
Also, do any of you have the Nook Tablet? Is it worth it? What exactly does it do? Thanks!

Re: Off Topic....Nook vs. Kindle
The first question is do you want a full color, back-lit tablet reader, or do you want a black and white e-ink reader? The e-ink reader is easier on your eyes, since it isn't backlit, but the color, backlit ones can do more stuff. The prices reflect the extra abilities and color.

Re: Off Topic....Nook vs. Kindle
I have the old school Kindle 2. Kind of big, and heavy, and black and white.
I was thinking of getting the new Kindle b/c the weight is really an issue since I commute with it.
If you only want to read I love the Kindle but consider the way the ebooks work too. My BFF and I both got Kindles thinking we could share books. Nope, only B&N with the nook allow such a feature. That was a big downer.

Re: Off Topic....Nook vs. Kindle
Does anyone know how the Kindle Fire compares to the Ipad? Anyone play with or have both?
I want an Ipad so badly but DH said Apple comes out with new products in the new year - so he wants to wait to buy one to see what new stuff Apple comes out with. I don't feel like waiting...the Kindle Fire seems to have everything I want the Ipad for and SO much cheaper.
I'd love to read some magazines on it, surf the web and email on it. Does Kindle Fire do all of this?
As for the apps - does the Kindle have diff apps than you can get on the iPad. Sorry - I'm not that tech savvy...play with my sisters iPad and have an iTouch so I'm familiar with the apps you can get...just wondering can I get similar apps for Kindle Fire?

I do not understand this comment and I have seen it more than once. There is a HUGE cost difference between an IPad and a Fire. How can you just say, wellll........I will just get the IPad? Aside from that, regardless of which device you choose nothing is perfect........even the IPad has been criticized.
Anyway, my point is.......ur comparing apples to oranges here. There is a minimum $300 differential between the two devices........that is a considerable amount of money. For me, I liked the Fire's price and it does everything I was looking for at a fraction of the price. I would love an IPad at some point but its hard to justify that much money for a "toy". For now, the Fire is perfect for me.

There's tons of cons about the iPad as well....

I agree with AP. With that huge of a price difference, it's not a fair comparison. I would personally never buy an iPad. Way too expensive for me, for what it is.

Re: Off Topic....Nook vs. Kindle
I have an Ipad for work and while I use it all the time, it's not great as an e-reader because it's so big to hold. It's also way more than the Tablet or Fire, so it's not really a fair comparison.
I am leaning towards the Nook Tablet. My coworker has a Fire and it seemed sluggish and I have read that elsewhere. I like that the Nook has actual volume controls (Kindle volume is touch screen controlled). It has more memory as well.
I picked up both in the store and the Nook Tablet seems better constructed. The Kindle seems cheaper.

Re: Off Topic....Nook vs. Kindle
Just an FYI - For those who have a Kindle Fire or plan on getting one................Amazon is suppose to be rolling out a HUGE software update in the next 2'ish weeks which will help the overall performance of the Fire. Just wanted to share.

This is just my opinion but I don't find the lack of a "hard" volume control annoying. It's so easy to access on the screen that for me, it's not a big deal. As for storage, although Nook has the ability to add storage space with the Kindle you have access to their cloud storage which offers more storage than you probably will ever need anyway.
Just be aware, the main criticism I have read about the Nook is lack of content. B&N just can't compare to the amount of content offered by amazon in the way of media and streaming content. Just something to think about if you're big on streaming movies and shows and even looking for apps. There are very few apps for the Nook and I'm an app addict so for me the Kindle was the better choice.
I have a Nook e-reader that I loved but I'm happy with my choice to switch over to Kindle.

Re: Off Topic....Nook vs. Kindle
Can anyone with the Fire tell me about reading magazines on it? From what I've read one of the big cons is the 7 inch screen does not handle magazines well...there is a lot of scrolling involved.
Sorry for comparing to Ipad...my bad. For me I know I want an Ipad eventually...was just going to get Fire as a Xmas present from DH to hold me over til new Ipads come out. But from reading everything I've read...would rather not waste the $200 and just hold out for new Ipad.

I am so out of the loop on this. I didn't even know you could do other things besides read on the Nook and Kindle. What exactly can you do with them? I have used an Ipad before but never a Nook or Kindle.

Both Nook and Kindle came out just this past month with a tablet version of their e-readers, like mini-IPads. You can read books on them, watch TV and movies, download apps, play games, go online, etc. It's a multimedia machine, a compact tablet computer. As I've said, I really love mine!

I don't bother to read magazines on it simply because I love to hold a real magazine in my hand when I read them. I think the little blurbs in a magazine and the photos all get lost on a tablet. That is one form of media that I prefer to physically have, hold, and read.
If you can afford the IPad and don't mind spending the money on it then I would hold out too.

Wow!! Now I want one lol. I can't justify spending the money on an Ipad when I have a laptop and an iphone so this is the perfect solution!! I am going to look more into them.
