Healthy Eating and Thanksgiving

I was wondering what everyone's approach to Thanksgiving is going to be...

I usually try to eat a healthy low carbohydrate breakfast and lunch and then dinner is usually a cheat meal. I find by eating healthy early in the day I am less likely to over eat...if I go into thanksgiving dinner hungry it is usually followed by a stomachache.

Re: Healthy Eating and Thanksgiving

I pretty much have the same plan. I eat a healthy breakfast. Lunch with with my ILs- I try to have a little bit without overindulging. Dinner I try to eat smaller portion sizes. I save my "cheat" for dessert thoughChat Icon

Re: Healthy Eating and Thanksgiving

I try to have a low cal breakfast & lunch. With dinner, I fill my plate with turkey, salad, veggies & sweet potato and then whatever room gets left on my plate gets the stuffing & a small scoop of mashed. With dessert, I have pumpkin pie & apple pie...sliver of each. And then I have a drink or two or three (by the time the day is done)......wow....this conversation is going down hill quickly.....Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

ETS: I obviously over indulge for Thanksgiving dinner and dessert...enough said!Chat Icon

Re: Healthy Eating and Thanksgiving

Thought I would share this...didn't think it only applied to those suffering from eating disorders but rather was applicable to any conscious dieter during this time.

To anyone that is suffering, I wish you happy thoughts and peace during the season

I'm going to try to go with smaller portion sizes, but I can't promise I will stick to it.

Re: Healthy Eating and Thanksgiving

Already ate! I just kept each portion to the size of my fist, except for buttermilk biscuits. I had two of those.

I also went out for a jog this morning and had a healthy breakfast. I'm eating dessert too, but not much.

I can't stick to these healthy changes for the rest of my life if I deny myself all of my urges. I just exhibit self control, and now I don't feel like I'm going to explode. Chat Icon

Same...kind of annoyed that I've been so sick all week and no energy for running/walking...

I think by this weekend I should take walks again and hope back to running Monday

I'll probably indulge tonight without going crazy and back to the plan tomorrow

I filled up on veggies - went very low carb - I had like a quarter-sized serving of potatoes and stuffing, we had sugar free apple pie for desert and I left the crust, we also ad sugar free pumpkin pudding.

We are at my ILs and they do not do a huge Thanksgiving meal. I pretty much ate a normal dinner (Turkey, Potatoes, Veggie) and then a small piece of Apple Crisp. Since it is just five people here there are no appetizers. Christmas with my family, however, is another story. I just figure it is a waste of a day....one day will not ruin my normal diet.

Re: Healthy Eating and Thanksgiving

I try not to over analyze everything I ate, because I dont normally eat like that. But I didn't overstuff myself and didn't even finish my dessert. Holidays & my birthday are "free" days for me anyway.

Re: Healthy Eating and Thanksgiving

I did pretty well apparently because I didn't even gain a pound!!!!!!!!! Chat Icon

I ate a healthy breakfast and lunch and cheated at dinner. I didnt go crazy overeating. I hate that feeling in any case. But I did have normal sized portions and of course I had to have dessert.

Trying to breathe and realize that the large jump on the scale is normal for a post cheat day and within a few days it will be back down! Yikes! It was worth it though!

So, I did well with my small portions approach. I didn't over stuff myself and it worked. I don't think I gained any weight. Chat Icon
