Something may be wrong with Charlie...
Charlie asked to be let out last night at 3:30am. Being that I'm pregnant and get up a few times a night anyway to pee, CHarlie has gotten used to middle of the night potty breaks, so I let her out which isn't out of the norm.
Well, when I got done in the bathroom I thought she had already gone upstairs. I went up and checked and she wasn't in bed, so I came back down to wait for her to come inside.
I waited and waited. She ended up being out there for about 20 minutes. Sometimes she obsesses over waiting for her friend, Mookie, who lives behind us, so I thought that was what she was doing. When she came in she just ran upstairs and went back to bed. I thought it was strange that she waited for her friend at 3:30-4am, but...sometimes she really obsesses over him.
Fast forward to this morning...I told DH that I thought it was strange that she stayed out for so long last night. Usually she knows that the middle of the night is for short potty breaks. SO when she went out this morning he snuck around the side door to catch a peek at what she was doing.
It turns out that on Thanksgiving when my FIL brought out the trash, he didn't think it was necessary to put it in the bin! There were some papertowels all over the yard. Dh went out with more bags to clean up the mess, and the bag wasn't ripped open, there wasn't any food-trash all over, just some paper towels, so it was hard to tell whether or not she got into anything.
He cleaned up the paper towels and put the bag in the bin, and now I am worried about Charlie. She is acting very sleepy and hanging her head down like she thinks she is in trouble, and sleeping in her bed and on the floor instead of laying on the couch and on our laps like usual. She hasn't eaten yet today but that isn't weird...sometimes she waits until after dinner to eat her dog food.
I am not sure if I should take her to the vet just to be on the safe side or just keep a close eye on her. We were going to go out today .... so I am not sure what we should do!

I would keep a close eye on her. Why don't you call the vet and explain the situation and they can tell you if they feel it would be better to bring her in. Hope she is ok. Keep us updated!

Re: Something may be wrong with Charlie...
The thing is there isn't any turkey carcass i nthe garbage...it's still in the fridge. Iwas saving it for my Mom so that she could make turkey soup which she gets all excited about.
Noone ate meat off of the bone on Thursday night...my Mom took the wings and legs home with her...we all just ate what was cut off. The neck bone is in the garbage somewehre from when I removed the gibblets from the raw turkey .... so ... it could have been that...
Right now she is acting guilty. Just like holding her head down like she did something wrong. And DH did catch her in the backyard with paper towels all over, so that could just be it.
I gave her a piece of bread and she ate it just fine so she is eating. She hasn't vomitted at all. She is going up and down the stairs, hopping on and off of the bed and the couches like normal.
Our vet is open until 3 today. I am going to keep an eye on her for another hour or so before I make a decision. She is rolling over and letting me pet her belly like usual, I'd imagine that would hurt if something is wrong.
I just don't want to go out for a few hours and come home and regret that I didn't take her to the vet....
Maybe I will give them a call and see what they say!

Re: Something may be wrong with Charlie...
Well Charlie seems to be acting normal now. We gave her a good belly pet and she seems normal again .... this morning she was acting guilty so maybe that was it!
Dh is staying home with her to keep an eye on her while DD and I head out...hopefully she is fine! I checked with my vet and they are open tomorrow also in case I end up needing to take her in!

Re: Something may be wrong with Charlie...
Okay we just got home from an afternoon out---DH was home with her all afternoon and gave me updates a few times that she was doing fine, and that seems to be the case. she was running all over and jumping up to see me when I just got home...doesn't seem to be hurting or uncomfortable at all!
So it just must have been some doggy guilt this morning making her mope around, since DH caught her in the back yard with garbage all over!
Thank GOODNESS!!!

If they are eating and pooping then usually their system is working. My dog ate a paper towel and we just saw it later in his poop.
