How long do you spend writing lesson plans?
I'm just curious to know... On average, how long does it take you to write/type out lesson plans for one subject for the week?
I've just spent the last 2 hrs. (w/a few tiny breaks) typing out plans for one subject area (reading) - basing it off of the Making Meaning program - using a self-made "template".
Also, when do you find the time to write lesson plans (in case admin is checking for them or you have to hand them in)?
Is it just me or is there an easier way to get this done?
Thanks. Any insight would be helpful...

Re: How long do you spend writing lesson plans?
As a new teacher it used to take me a few hours per week, but this is my tenth year so I would say I get them done in less than 30 mins/week. I have to hand them in each week but only need to include objective, do now, activity, homework so they are not very detailed. I make my worksheets based on the lesson plan day to day.

Re: How long do you spend writing lesson plans?
Luckily, I do not have to write out formal lesson plans. Planning actual lessons (creating ppts, worksheets, labs, projects, hws) takes me forever and this is year 6 for me. But this is also because I more or less revise every lesson every year. I teach HS and have four preps this year (usually I have five). I spent the better part of yesterday planning for this week.

Re: How long do you spend writing lesson plans?
each lesson (with handouts) takes me 30 min-an hour..but i write them all at school..i actually refuse to take work home with me, it makes me more sane
this is my 3rd year, but i've taught 6 grades in 3 years (english)
i do very, very detailed lesson plans too..each plan consists of:
unit topic aim motivation instructional materials procedure/pivotal questions summary follow-up
and i type every single day/class/prep's lesson plan up and keep them in inserts in a binder for the unit
i also keep an anchor binder with extra reading materials for each unit

Re: How long do you spend writing lesson plans?
As a new teacher it is taking me a while. I am sure it will take less time the years I work on them.
