toe nail fungus/sore toe . OUCH!

So, I don't go for pedicures.

But my DH accidently kicked me over the summer with his shoe and I was wearing flip flops. My toe nail bled (big toe) and was black and I cleaned it, but I guess some dirt from his shoe was embedded under the nail and I ended up with fungus.

lovely.

It turned yellow and hard and I cut it as short as possible. Most of it is gone.

It's hideous.

But worse than that, it HURTS. it's SO SORE. Any time it hits my shoe on the inside or if my son steps on me, I howl in pain.

Is this just par for the course?? Is it because there is no toe nail there really?

I'm able to put up with a lot before complaining about it, but when my toe gets touched, it hurts soooooooooooooo much.

Yes, I should go to a podiatrist. I know. I just don't know how they can assist in the pain part of this.

thoughts? experiences? advice?

sounds like it could be ingrown? I would see an podiatrist

They can surgically remove the sides of your nail that are digging the skin if that's the case...

This happened to me too... My nail turned hard and yellow and was painful, especially on the tip of the toe itself. My podiatrist has me on Lamisil for about 3 months... He said it will stop the pain and that the nail should be better in about a year. Good luck!!
