Getting nervous - UPDATE!

I posted yesterday that I was spotting a little, and while many responded that it's completely normal, I took the initiative to call the OB today just to see what they said. They asked me to come in today at 2:30. My first appointment wasn't supposed to be until next week, and now they want me in immediately? I'm hoping it's all just precautionary, but the urgency of it makes me really nervous.

Can any of you provide some insight to this first time mommy-to-be?

UPDATE - so I just got back from the doctor. They did a sono and some blood work to check progesterone and HCG levels, and still want me to come back for my appointment next week. They didn't say to worry, or not to worry, but they did say it's still VERY early. Apparently I'm 5w 5d, BUT......I saw the heartbeat! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon And not faintly either! So now I feel a little better, though I'm still nervous because it's so early. But I have my LO's first pic to show DH tonight!

Thanks to all of you who tried to ease my nerves Chat Icon

Re: Getting nervous

Maybe this will give you a little piece of mind. A few weeks ago when i was 5w5d i had some light brown spotting along with cramps. I was really nervous and called my doctor, he said i could come right in. I went in and he gave me an u/s. I ended up being able to see the first flickers of the babies heartbeat! So yes it can be completely normal to have some spotting and cramps. Good Luck today!!! Let us know what happens.

Re: Getting nervous

It's very common to spot in pregnancy, especially early on. As long as you're not cramping badly as well and soaking a pad, try not to worry too much. I know it's easier said than done... but I had bleeding in my first pregnancy that was TOTALLY fine. In my triplet pregnancy it was a different story, but that was due to a subchorionic hematoma which usually does not cause a loss.

Good luck!!

Re: Getting nervous

It's probably to be extra careful. I had some very light spotting at 15 weeks and they had me come in right away for a sono to make sure everything was ok. I was kind of hoping they'd just tell me I was worrying over nothing but in the end I'm glad I went in and that they were proactive about it. Hopefully it's nothing Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Getting nervous

Thanks. I'm trying not to freak out, but it's awfully hard. Hopefully it's nothing and I'll just be able to get some info earlier! It does kinda stink though that DH can't come.....he was planning to come next week, but since this is so last minute, there's no way he can make it today.

Re: Getting nervous

I think some drs are just more sensitive to the needs of their patients and will have them come in with spotting... some wont, they will say not unless you have cramping... at least you'll know sooner whats going on!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Getting nervous

I haven't been pregnant before, but I'll speak as someone who works with kids and is always trying to CYA - if they tell you not to come in and it was something wrong but easily treatable then they will be to blame if it doesn't get better or gets worse. I would say that's all it is. They can't tell you what it is without looking at you, so they are going to look at you.

Good luck!!!! It sounds like lots of ladies are saying that it is fairly common.
