Diary of a Wimpy Kid books - what age?

BJ's has a whole bunch of these books. We picked up the first one for G for Christmas. She just turned 6. She hasnt read any novels yet, although she is reading Harry Potter with my husband (they take turns)

She flies thru "childrens" books way too quickly and she's getting bored with them,.

Honestly (as a librarian) it's a bit too young. There are plenty of kids who are able to read the words, but it's the concepts that go completely over their head. This can actually backfire, as kids can become bored, since they aren't quite sure what is going on and it makes reading less fun.

I would look for series books that she would enjoy. For girls: Tiara Club, Abby Hayes, Frannie K Stein, Rainbow Fairies, Geronimo Stilton, Weird School, Dear Dumb Diary, Clementine, Amber Brown, Judy Moody.

Do you know her reading level?

Thank you! I already bought the one book so I'm still going to give it to her and see how she does. But I'm going to look at the ones you mentioned. She already has and read all the rainbow fairies books and loved them but asked for longer books.

I'm not sure of her level. Her teacher did call me since she just started her new school a few weeks ago. She called me specifically to say that she is impressed with her reading and that she is way above her grade level.

It is appropriate for 2nd grade and up. Honestly, it's too hard for many 2nd graders to fully comprehend but most can read the words.

Below that, it can be a read aloud.
