Flu shot
Dd turns 6 months tomorrow , we just went to the dr today and she is doing great 14 pounds and very healthy....we were just prescribed vitamins for once a day and at the end of that convo the dr added getting her two part flu shot.....im not trying to cause a political feud on here...i just want to see if any of you gave it to your lo this young? Dd is not in day care however my nephew who is three months older is...and we see them from time to time as well as my mil who kisses dd constantly after kissing her grandson...so i am nervous about her catching something but i am also nervous that she may be too little to get the ****???

Re: Flu shot
DS is 2 & we've never given him one. He's not in day care (he's at my parents house 3 days a week) & while both dh & I work in public facilities, we do not have prolonged exposure to the general public so I don't feel that we're at a higher risk than others of catching it. I will add, though, that I've gotten the shot this year & in '09 when I was pg...when I'm not pg I don't get it.

Re: Flu shot
DD got her first one last year when she was almost one - no problems, and no flu. She recently got he second one at almost 2, again no problems and no flu. I'm a fan!

Re: Flu shot
My daughter had her 1st flu shot this past November when she was 11 months. I am very pro flu shot. I am a teacher and bring home crazy germs and I knew a baby who had the flu and it was so horrible what he had to endure so yes my child will be getting it every year. Even if the chance that it is effective is only small, I would rather a small chance than none at all.
That said, I do believe it is a personal decision and EVERY parent has the RIGHt to choose what they feel comfortable with. Go with your gut

Re: Flu shot
You will get a 1000 different answers - but for US - I got it for my girls. Neither were in daycare. DH works out of the house - and is likely to bring home illnesses (in fact he had in the past). I also did some mommy and me classes and I did take them out and about (stores). All you need is someone to cough on them in a line etc. While it doesn't protect against every strain - my feeling was for us - if it increased the chances they wouldn't get the flu and there were no allergies that would prevent them getting the shot that I wanted them to have it. My girls also get croup from things like allergies so I was worried if they got the flu they could have breathing troubles. Interestingly on here a lot of people I know don't get it - but IRL most people I know do.

Re: Flu shot
DS is 8 months and got his flu shot 2 weeks ago. He gets the 2nd part in 2 weeks. He responded fine, no reaction, thank god. For us we weighed the + and - and since DH works in a school we decided it was best to not take a chance with our little guy catching something.
It's really up to you, the best thing to do is read up on the shot and decide what works best for your little one.

Re: Flu shot
My dd got the flu last year when she was 4 months old from a family member who was taking care of her and didn't know they had it. She was too young for the flu shot at that time. This year she is 14 months and we got her the flu shot. Didn't want to take a chance.

Re: Flu shot
I only get it when they are in full day DC/ school. DD is 4 months and she will get it the day she turns 6 months, but we have a personal reason for that.

Re: Flu shot
My children will definitely get the flu shot every year. My older son was about 9 months when he first got it. My 2nd son is not old enough to get it this year but he will get it next year. IMO, I don't want to take the chance of them getting the flu. And the flu shot has been around a while and has such limited side effects. Definitely worth it to me.

Re: Flu shot
our DD got the 2 part shot at 6m. shes not in daycare either and i personally HATE the flu shot. but she was a preemie and is small and IMO getting the flu would be worse for her than the vaccine.
that being said one part one she got a fever of 101.8 but was acting normal so we didnt treat it. part 2 she got yesterday and has been fine this time.

Re: Flu shot
I got it for DD as soon as she was old enough- 6 months old. I don't ever get myself a flu shot, but the flu is more dangerous in babies and she is in daycare so I wanted to at least give her SOME kind of protection.
It's a personal choice though- but just know that 6 months is not too young if you want to get it. My DD was fine- no reaction at all

Re: Flu shot
I have never got the shot myself, and never got it for my dd who is almost 4. a few months ago when my son was around your dc's age his pediatrician recommended that I get it for him. I trust everything she says so I got it for him but still didnt get it for my daughter. it was a first for me with no problems. we will see what happens next year.

Re: Flu shot
thank you ladies ....dh and i weighed the pros and cons of giving or not giving dd the flu shot ....we will be giving it to her ..i just wasnt sure if 6 months seemed too young plus she was born a month early, so even though she is long 25 inches and 12 pounds she is still such a lil peanut . I dont know what i would do if i didnt at least try to protect her and her catch the flu .
Thank you all again for sharing your opinions and your experience with the flu shot and your lo's

Re: Flu shot
Dd got the flu shot but not the booster since she's not in daycare. Kids get them starting at 6 months so your dc is on target.

Re: Flu shot
so far DD has gotten part 1 of the flu shot at 6 months and we need to go back for part 2. DH works in schools and around kids and DD while not in daycare is watched by a friend who has a 5 year old in kindergarten. She has already gotten 2 colds this year so I didn't want to risk the flu. While I hate having her get shots its better than her getting the flu. DH and I usually get the shot too.
