ANOTHER Pre-Qual Question
Ok i have now called two different places and both said that i have to come in and fill out an application and 5-10 days later i will get a response.
I was told that i could get a Pre-Qual immediately... Is this true? Or did everyone have to wait and fill out papers?

Re: ANOTHER Pre-Qual Question
I did everything over the phone/fax/mail. I forget which is first pre-approval or pre-qual. For whichever is more detailed, I think I mailed them copies of our w-2s and stuff. The 1st step (pre-approval?) I got an immediate answer.

well i am looking at houses and i was told that if i want to bid on a home, i should get a pre-qualification. That it will tell me what kind of loan i can get so i know what i can and cannot bid on.
So far the two places i have called, i have to go and pick up an application and then wait a few days for a response? I thought this process was a little quicker

Re: ANOTHER Pre-Qual Question
To just look at places we were pre-qualified for a certain amountm but that was just based on figures we gave over the phone. We didn't actually get pre-approved until we had already had an offer accepted. For that we needed to fill out applications and give copies of w-2s, but we still got an answer probably within a day or so from when they got our info. i think one of the places we used to get pre-qualified was countrywide. when we actually got our mortgage we found a great lender through lendingtree.com

Re: ANOTHER Pre-Qual Question
We did ours over the phone and then got a letter saying we were pre-qualified.
Have you called a bank where you have an account already? You may find that you get better service there. At this point you should be able to get a letter without going there to fill out papers.
ETA: We got the letter in the mail but they also emailed me a letter as an attachment. I had that in a couple of days. Too bad this place was a disaster in every other way. (Municipal Credit Union)

Maybe cause it's the bank and not a broker. We have Chase but used a broker.

Re: ANOTHER Pre-Qual Question
I got mine the next day through an email attachment. I just gave him all my info on the phone and he checked with all the banks and told me which one was the best.

Re: ANOTHER Pre-Qual Question
i'd say call a broker, even if you don't end up using him/her.
