Re: alarm company?
We use VMS Security. Excellent personal service. I don't remember installation costs but I know it was reasonable and they had tons of options.
We are thrilled with them.

Re: alarm company?
I have Slomins. I think it was 1200 or so, we pay 30 a month.
For that we got: 2 keypads (one by the door, one in the master bedroom) 2 motion detectors all doors (4) and the windows...i don't want to detail which ones we did and which ones we didn't on a public forum

Re: alarm company?
We went with Slomin's as well. They have a basic free package but you can add to it if you want extras (i.e. extra doors, motion detectors or windows). Windows were $99 each. I think the extra motion detector was between $150-200? We also got 3 heat detectors and that was about $325. I should really know this since we just did this but that is the ballpark.
Anyway, whether you stick with the free basic package or get the extras, monthly fee is still $30.95 per month.

Ditto on VMS - I've posted about them several times - you can find more info via Search. Our installation added up because we put lots of extras on but they starter package is reasonable. Their monthly fee is a little less than some of the other national chains too.

We use VMS as well. I had also gotten a quote from Lowitt and they were thru the roof. Been very happy with VMS thus far.

Re: alarm company?
My DH does alarms. Installation is going to depend on what you want. Brinks, Slomins - they have very basic packages that you can often have installed for free, but their monitoring fees are higher. Then DH has some clients who want everythign under the sun and the equipment really adds up. He gets the monitoring for $18 per month. Some of his clients just have the system without having it hooked up to central station.
Oh and in Nassau County (I don't remember about Suffolk County), you need to get permits for your system so that's an additional cost.

Re: alarm company?
I have a FANTASTIC security consultant. He installs alarm and survelience (camera) systems.
He will install a better system that the "free" system you get from Slomins/ADT.
The install costs more up front since it's not free, but you don't get locked into that 5 year contract that you typically get with Slomins. And I also get a better deal on monitoring since I own the system right from the start, I can shop the monitoring around. My monitoring is also computer internet/IP based with a cellular backup. I don't need a landline.
FM me if you want his details. He works Nassau/Suffolk only.
