Girls dealing with MF issues
We just found out that my DH has MF issues. Various issues, including abnormal shape, no rapid moving sperm, moderate to low count, low % that are forward moving. I was tested and came back fine for all my tests. I was wondering if anyone dealing with MF had any feedback on how lengthy the correction process usually is, I know it depends on the person but I have no idea how complicated MF issues can be. Anyone have feedback??

Re: Girls dealing with MF issues
First - I'm so sorry you're dealing with this! But, please realize that there are still so many options for you two. I also want to say that it's a GOOD sign that he has sperm. This means that the chances of you both having biological children is high.
We were (are) dealing with originally 0 sperm so our story is a little different, but hopefully some of what I know and what we've been through can help you.
To set your expectations - it takes 3 months for sperm to be produced and fully mature so if the dr thinks this is something correctable, your husband will probably have to wait some time and have multiple SAs over this time to see if things are improving. You need to be patient...but that doesn't mean you need to stop TTC.
The MOST important thing that I recommend is to see a urologist who specializes in male infertility. Don't waste your time or mone with other urologists who will "try" things. Go with someone who does this all day, every day and really knows what he's doing. Also, for us, we chose a urologist who is part of an RE practice. This way DH's dr and my dr can meet and talk about our situation very easily. They collaborate weekly and came up with a plan TOGETHER which has made everything so easy for us.
Our timeframe, to give you an idea...we found out there was 0 sperm in June. DH has been on medication since then. In November we found a few sperm. Most people would be upset by this...but not us. We're thrilled that any exist now. Not enough to get pg naturally, so we moved straight to IVF w ICSI (where they insert his sperm directly into my egg). Our IVF is Jan/Feb. But these 7 or 8 months have flown by...just knowing we're working with the best drs who can help us have children.
Please let me know if there's anything else you want to know.
What's your next step?

Re: Girls dealing with MF issues
NYCGirl gave you great feedback. We also are dealing with MF. He needs to go to a Urologist to find if there is a reason its happening. DH has low count, morph and motility. We had 4 failed IUIs and are starting IVF this week. Ive been told our chance for success is high. I also had all my test results come back normal. As far as your question about the correction process, it really depends on why his count is low. For my dh, it's unexplained Good news is that it can change over time. Step 1.. urologist. Good luck!!!

Re: Girls dealing with MF issues
It depends on how forceful you want to be. You can up the counts with clomid but, that takes a few months. You might want to just move on to IVF.

clomid only works if his low count is a direct results of low testosterone. Cloomid doesnt directly impact sperm.

This is correct. Clomid only works if there's a low T count - and even then there's no guarantee. Clomid will straighten out the hormones, and sperm counts will only increase if this was the cause of the problem.
