cat feeding question

My Monty is 6 1/2 years old and a little overweight. The vet had us switch to Royal Canin Calorie Control dry food, but would eventually like him on wet food too.

Does anyone do both dry and wet food? If so, how do you give it? Is it dry everyday, and add wet on other days? Or is it both everyday? TIA!

I don't feed my girls wet food (except for an occasional treat)..

but my sisters 3 cats get wet food (1/2 a small can each) once a day..

my friends 2 cats get 1/2 a small can twice a day..
(and after having watched her cats for a week, it never made me so glad I don't have to do that every day!)

Both leave dry food out all day.

I only treat my little guys with wet maybe once a week. I just feed them dry food I make sure they have enough to get them from morning till I get home and Ill give them a little more when I get home.

My vet said that the whole view on cat's diets has changed over the past few years. That they need a lot more protein and fewer carbs (similar to a tiger or lion). Dry food has a lot of carbs, so we switched him to the Royal Canin calorie control, which is higher in protein. But they want him on wet food eventually too. I'll probably start out giving the wet food once or twice a week. He's going to love it lol
