MTHFR gene mutation with normal homocysteine levels

I know a few of us have this mutation. I have a homozygous C677T mutation on the MTHFR gene. However, I went to the hematologist and she wasn't alarmed because my homocysteine levels are normal. I'm currently taking baby aspirin, folic acid, prenatals and progesterone. I'm concerned that most people with this gene mutation are put on lovenox (and swore this was the only way they carried their pregnancy to full term) and none of the 5 doctors I spoke to think I need it. Should I be advocating more for myself or should I let it be? I do want to trust that if 5 doctors say I don't need lovenox that I don't need it but I'm scared

i was never told to use lovenox bc of my mthfr mutations.

i was only made to use lovenox when i bc pg and they did additional testing bc my placenta wasnt perfect and found i had even MORE blood clotting disorders.

many women who only have the mthfr just take the baby aspirin and metanx.

i would def talk to you re to make sure any additional blood clotting disorders are ruled out before assuming you NEED lovenox kwim?

MTHFR is common... If they tested EVERYONE on the pregnancy board for it, I'm sure it would come up that about half of those girls have it too. It's just that many of us on THIS board go through such a through battery of tests that we know we have it.


This is not an immediate need for lovenox, it depends on what your other issues are specifically, if any.

Thanks for your responses ladies, it really helped. I think the mthfr yahoo board is both a blessing and a curse bc the women on there really made me believe I would miscarry without lovenox.

I dont know. I have homozygous C, but normal levels too. I had 2 miscarriages before I found out. I have to take baby aspirin for life. My first OB said baby aspirin would be enough, but my hematologist said it would be safe to go on the Lovenox knowing my history and for precaution. My new OB agreed. I dont have other clotting issues.

I wanted to be extra cautious and aggressive because of my past miscarriages.

I carried a healthy baby full term, so I believe I will go back on Lovenox next time. Maybe I didn't need it, but I don't want to chance it again, yaknow?

I have an A and C copy which I think is hetero. I take metnax and baby aspirin, I was told no lovenox, that it was too aggressive and not necessary.

And my Doctors (including hematologist) said it is extremely common but just most people don't know about it because they aren't tested.

I also have MTHFR - C...

but i also have A LOT other issues that came up on the thrombo RLP..

Low Antithrombin Antigen
High Protein S Activity
High Protein S Antigen
Low APTT (Lupus Sensitive)
Low DRVVT (Complete)
Low Plasminogen Activity
Low Protein Z Antigen


i was on 40mg of lovenox to start and now im on 80 because at one sono the blood flow still wasnt good

I have a MTHFR but the Dr never put me on lovenox for it. He later put me on b/c it can help immune issues. I had some others but all minor. They just retested this week so we shall see what other issues I have.
