Miscarriage after seeing a heartbeat?
Hey girls…I am wondering what the chances are of miscarrying after seeing a heartbeat??? My doctor said it is only 3% but I am still so freaked out because I personally know 2 people it happened to.
I am currently 7 weeks pregnant and we saw the heartbeat yesterday and it was strong. My RE is ready to release me to the OB and this is very worrisome! Also I miscarried 1 year ago pretty early on like 5.5 weeks but it was still devastating and a terrible time and I am so negative this go around. We had a rough go conceiving again so ofcourse I am super paranoid. I am trying not to google but I just need to hear from you ladies if I should be worried or if my chances are good??? Be blunt with me, thanks!

Not to scare u but I had a mc 12 weeks after seeing a strong hb of 156 at 7 weeks. I am currently 9 weeks pregnant again and can totally relate to your fears. Good luck to all of us

Re: Miscarriage after seeing a heartbeat?
I have never herd of that statistic. I lost my pregnancy at what would have been 10w but baby stopped growing at 8weeks. If I went earlier to Dr I would have heard the hb(my first appt was when we discovered the miscarriage). Im sure you will be fine & wish you a happy and healthy 9mnths.

Re: Miscarriage after seeing a heartbeat?
I heard it drops down to 2-3% after you could hear a strong heartbeat with an 'over the belly' doppler.
I don't mean to scare you, but besides my chemical I lost 5 babies after I saw a heartbeat.... The risk IS there, but goes down every week.
ETA: chromosomal issues usually would show up by the 9-10th week... I was told by my doctors that's a major milestone.. and of course making it out of the first trimester.

Re: Miscarriage after seeing a heartbeat?
Thx girls. I do feel like it has to be more common then they say or is it in my head? Well the good news I don't have anything else working against me so the only thing that would cause it is chromosomal.
Pennycat did they ever determine what your causes were? Any of them chromosomal or no? Did you have 3 total losses after seeing the heartbeat? Ugh I am so sorry you had to go through all of that - I really cannot even imagine. Hugsssss. I am wishing you luck through surrogacy!!!!

Re: Miscarriage after seeing a heartbeat?
I also miscarried at 9 weeks after seeing the HB @ 6wks & 7.5wks on the sono... I think once you miscarry at all, those fears are with you for a while. Im 6wks now and petrified of miscarrying again.

Re: Miscarriage after seeing a heartbeat?
I don't know anything about the statistic, and I also don't mean to scare you, but I miscarried at about 6 weeks after hearing a strong heartbeat at 5 weeks. I even had a sonogram and everything, and when I went for my second appointment I was told it had stopped growing.

Same thing happened to me.
I know it is easier said than done, but try to stay positive and away from google!

Re: Miscarriage after seeing a heartbeat?
i dont have personal experience with this, my losses were before hearing a heartbeat. however i think that saying it drops to 2-3% after seeing a heartbeat is extremely general. so many women don't see their OBs until 8-9 weeks, so they technically may never see a heartbeat and be experiencing a loss. meanwhile a woman who has an OB that sees people at 6w may see a heartbeat only to experience a loss at 8 or 9w also. so i think the stat is very vague and the time at which the heartbeat is seen vs the time of the actual loss is IMO very important to that statistic. .

Re: Miscarriage after seeing a heartbeat?
I have heard a stat like that but I'm not sure of the exact numbers. I had a loss at 11w after seeing a hb at 8w. Best of luck to you!

Re: Miscarriage after seeing a heartbeat?
I have heard that as well but at the same time I do know of a few people (myself included) who had losses after seeing the heartbeat.
You just have to try to stay positive that everything will work out great this time. Congrats!

Re: Miscarriage after seeing a heartbeat?
Responding again just to say... you really can't worry about statistics. Your story is your story.
I had a subchorionic hematoma that causes a loss just 2% of pregnancies. It caused a loss for me twice. My son had severe complications that happen in 1 in 100,000 cases...
They could tell you that 99% of people have a loss after 6wks but if you are in that 1% who goes on to have a healthy pregnancy, that's ALL that matters!!

Re: Miscarriage after seeing a heartbeat?
not to scare you but since you asked, my missed mc was after hearing a heartbeat twice, one at 6 weeks and one at 8 weeks. went back at 11 weeks and there was no heartbeat, they said it was measuring 8 weeks 3 days But you can't stress about it , just stay positive and be happy, enjoy the pregnancy, everything will be fine.

Re: Miscarriage after seeing a heartbeat?
I don't want to scare you, but when I'm pregnant that miscarriage thought is always on my mind. I never had a first trimester miscarriage but I did have a fetal demise around 27 1/2 weeks. My two pregnancies after the demise I carried a doppler with me just for the sense of security.
