St. Charles hospital?
I just found out today that Suffolk OB/GYN only delivers at St Charles. I had thought Stony Brook was an option when I chose that practice. I don't know anything about St Charles but I had heard really good things about Stony Brook. I'm not sure if it's worth finding a new OB though since I dont know anything about it. If any ladies who have already given birth at St Charles or know any thing about it, good or bad, can you please share your thoughts about it? Thanks!
Eta: I saw on their website that grandparents visiting hours are 2-4. Are they strict with that? I actually prefer that they are because I think I will want quiet time with just our parents. I can already picture certain family members trying to insist they be allowed to visit during those hours as well but I'm hoping the staff will tell them no so we don't end up with too many people in the room.

Re: St. Charles hospital?
I had my twins there 18 months ago and will be having my baby there in May also. I loved it there. Although the rooms aren't all private (they are in Stony Brook) they won't give you a roommate until all the rooms have at least one person in them. But if you did have a rommate it would only be 1, unlike other hospitals that can fit up to 4 in one room. All of nurses were great. And Im already looking forward to the breakfast buffet every morning!

Re: St. Charles hospital?
I have only good things to say!!! The nurses were great!! I really like how the visiting hours are set-up.. I wouldn't want people coming in all day long with a newborn in the room... Grandparents and siblings 2-4 then you have some down time before all others come at 7-8.. And sharing a room wasn't bad at all... The nurses do try and spread all the rooms up, so you do have a chance of having your own room.. Oh I have to agree with the breakfast buffet!!! YUMMY!!!

Re: St. Charles hospital?
I delivered my first son at St. Charles (with Suffolk obgyn; Dr. Lograno) I had a great experience and loved it. The hospital visiting hours seem not the greatest (seems like not a lot) but honestly I loved it ~ 2-4 we had grandparents and great grandparents come in baby is with you (although my hubby's cousin snuck in) and then the evening hours the baby is in the nursery during visiting hours. The nurses were all really great. If you like your doctor then maybe stick with it. The food was yummy and I had my own room for pretty much most of the time (I had a c-section so I was there from Mon-Fri)
This pregnancy I left Suffolk OBGYN and will be delivering at Stony Brook but this pregnancy is a High Risk Pregnancy.

Re: St. Charles hospital?
I love love love St. Charles! I delivered dd there in 2010 and will be having this baby there in May. The l&d nurses were so sweet, I loved the anthestologist and the maternity ward nurses were great too! The hospital was so clean and food was great. They were not strict with visitors web I was there. For grandparents hours I had about 10 people come everyday and I had a csec. They never said a word to me. My parents sometimes stayed an hour or two after visit ended in the afternoon. I paid for a private room but really didnt need to since it wasn't crowded and I would have had my own room anyways. I use to be patient at Suffolk obgyn but didn't like the practice and switched to a smaller one who still delivers at St. Charles!

Re: St. Charles hospital?
I will also be delivering at St. Charles for the first time. Does anyone know what they provide for moms and babies. I delivered at Stony Brook last time and they provided everything needed (diapers, real wipes, pacifers, formula, onsies etc etc) but i hear not all hospitals do.
Thanks ladies!!

Re: St. Charles hospital?
I just delivered DS at St. Charles in December and I had a wonderful experience. The nursing staff was amazing, I can't say enough good things about the nurses on L&D and Post Partum, the food was great, my room was so clean and they were strict with the visiting, but it was good, I know some people who delivered in other hospitals and hated the fact that so many people were in and out during the day. And yes, they provided everything you need for the baby
I also wanted to add that I had a CSection and was there for 4 days and I did not have a roommate. Luckily it wasn't too crowded where they needed to double up so I basicaly had a private room which was great

Re: St. Charles hospital?
i haven't delivered there, but i will be. my doctor generally ONLY delivers there, but he has privelages at stonybrook IF he needed to for some reason. i'm partial to st charles - i was born there, so were my niece and nephew, and my mom was a delivery room nurse there for 30 years i've never heard a bad word about it.

Re: St. Charles hospital?
I delivered at St. Charles last year and have nothing but good things to say. The nurses were amazing, the food was great. I didn't have a roomate the entire time (was there 4 days). The visiting hrs were strict, but I thought it was fine. I delivered my twins at a different hospital and visitors were there all the time, which I found exhausting.
