How far back on resumes? (Do not move please!)
How far back do you put on your resume? Is it 10 years? I was going to post this on Career but there hasn't been any traffic there since 3/15.

I am no professional, but I would gauge it by space on the resume, not by years.
If you worked 47 jobs in the past 10 years, that would take up so much room and it's unnecessary. But, if you worked one solid job for the past 8 years, I would write just that and list more accomplishments at that job.

i don't think there is a set time limit. you want to fill a page, but you don't want to go over, unless you absolutely have to. you want the experience to be relevant or tell a story. if you fill a page with the past 5-8 years, all the experience is relevant to the position you are currently seeking, and adding info from 8-12 years ago would make it go over a page, and be in a different line of work, or very junior work, i would probably leave it out. if you still had some room left, and you could add in something prestigious or notable from 15 years ago and keep it at a page, i would put it in.

Ten years is the standard. However, I have gone back a little farther for some clients if it added to showing professional growth and a pattern of promotions.

Re: How far back on resumes? (Do not move please!)
Hrm. 10 sounds right but I do all in my industry which is 15yrs. Mostly because in that 15yrs I’ve been in two states and 6 jobs!
Sounds bad, but Ironically it works in my favor as all of those jobs were in different fields of my industry with specific specialties. Jack of all Trades ….
I will say I make the bullet points for the older ones much smaller than the newer ones. I have the last one down to nearly a summarized sentence to describe nearly 3yrs of work. Two of the other jobs were actually only one year of work anyway (got laid off at one and the other is the one just before the job I have now).
For me I fit my resume into one page always
