Allergies with fever?
Is it common for a 14 month old to have allergies with a fever? I'm starting to question my dr.

Re: Allergies with fever?
It is so ironic you have posted this, because we were at our allergist today, and he told me the same thing! I was totally stunned. I never knew allergies could cause a fever, but I think he said it has to do with allergies causing inflammation. Pollen is already bad, because of this gorgeous weather!

Re: Allergies with fever?
At least your dr said it was allergies. Mine swears that babies under the age of 2 CAN'T have allergies... I KNOW my son has had allergies since he was 10 months old!!!

Re: Allergies with fever?
I feel like she's had them since she's born! Every other month she had a cough and the dr said it was nothing. Then resently he said to try claritin. It's the second night and seemed to have helped a little already.

I have had DS on Claratin for about a year.. It made a huge difference in him.. He had a cough for almost three weeks this past month and the dr had him on 2 antibiotics. Didn't do anything. Last week I started his Claritin again and within 24 hours it was almost gone. It has been 5 days and he hasn't coughed at all... I make sure he gets his dose everyday.. He is 28 months old!

Re: Allergies with fever?
I think the answer is generally no - most likely it is a virus or infection. But having said that - I grew up with terrible allergies and I can tell you (my ENT confirmed this) that if you get really tight you can end up with a low grade fever (think 100.1 or 100.3 in adults not 101+). Once I got it to drain though it would come down. I would say if they just get a runny nose and a fever it is probably a cold but if they have the runny nose only when they go outside for several weeks in a row then probably it is allergies. Make sure you watch them - I grew up getting bronchitis and sinusitis over and over from allergies. I would get infections when I couldn't get the allergies under control.
