Lactation Consultant recommendations and questions
I called my insurance company and they said an LC is covered 100pct, but there are none in-network so I find my own. Just an FYI I am due with #3 in July, I didn't BF #1 at all and I briefly pumped for #2, but this is my last baby and I really want to do it this time.
How did you find your LC? (I'm scared of some of the horror stories I have heard about them. Both of my kids were FF and I have zero issues with that so I don't want someone telling me FF is bad/wrong/whatever)
Should I meet the LC before the baby is born?
Is there anything else I should know?
TIA

Re: Lactation Consultant recommendations and questions
I rarely post on here, but I couldn't help but to in your post. I was in the same position when I had DS. I wanted to BF and I didn't know the first place to start looking. I don't have any other DC's however I would like to have another. In the event that I do I will start looking long before the DC is born, which I see you are doing. I would ask your pediatrician as well as your OB for referrals. When DS was an infant I never thought to ask the OB, but when I started having issues the pediatrician had mentioned that if I had decided to continue that they could offer some names that they refer to. I am sorry that I cannot help out more with actual names, but I hope what I have offered helps a little.

Re: Lactation Consultant recommendations and questions
I have an 8 day old daughter and so far we are successfully breastfeeding after not being able to nurse my first due to latch and supply issues.
From what I can tell my supply is good and she is doing great...
So I wanted you to know that it is entirely possible!
I recieved a lot of help from the nurses at the hospital, they were really fantastic.
I am going to the breastfeeding support group at the hospital tomorrow morning...they hold it weekly there and I am planning on going just to make sure that we are doing everything the way we should be since my experience is not with breastfeeding!
I wish you all the best!

Re: Lactation Consultant recommendations and questions
I saw an LC who is also a pediatrician. Her name is Dr. Jennifer Schaer and she's out in Riverhead at Peconic Pediatrics and Breastfeeding Medicine. I don't live nearby, but since she takes insurance, it was worth the trip for me. I really liked her. I only went to her once. She took a lot of time with me and helped me a lot. I had a lot of issues with oversupply in the beginning, which made DD a really fussy eater. I went on to BF until she was 12 1/2 months.
ETA: I didn't go to her until DD was 5 or 6 weeks old. I didn't really have any issues until week 2-3 when my milk supply went nutty. Next baby, I'll probably do the same thing and only contact an LC if I'm having trouble. I did however go to a weekly group through my hospital. It was fantastic and a great support network. You may not *need* and LC, but I'd definitely look into a support group.

Re: Lactation Consultant recommendations and questions
Michele Turner her company is called Simply Motherhood. She is also a pediatric NP. She is amazing. Came to my home, spent 3hrs with us, trained DS to keep his tongue down. Though BF wasn't successful for me, Michelle was fabolous. I was just too stressed out to continue
