When did your kids go into a 'big' bed? Not a toddler bed ........

Sean will be 3 in a few weeks. - He's been in his toddler bed for awhile - 18 or 20 months ....I don't remember exactly.

Do you think it's time for a regular full sized bed? (His crib converts to a full, so I'm not getting a twin and THEN getting a full later on .......)

He has always been an awesome, easy to get to bed sleeper, and now he's screaming his head off at bed time, and won't go down w/o one of us in the room - I'm sure it's a phase, he's not saying he's scared, I have a bright starrs/moon nightlight that practically lights up the whole room ..

SO I'm not sure if I should also just get the big bed NOW, while he's doing this anyway .......or wait til he's 'over' this, and then risk another adjustment w/ the bed ........???

We skipped toddler beds. My girls went straight to twin sized beds. My oldest DD was 17 months and my youngest daughter was 15 months.

Do you think I should just do the bed transition now while he's already crazy about going to bed and get it all over w/ at once?

We bought DS a thomas toddler bed before DS#2 arrived. He has never slept in that bed.

DS#1 sleeps on a king sized bed and DS#2 sleeps on a queen sized bed. Both kids hated the crib. We read/lay with them until they fall asleep.

At 2.5 DS went straight to his full size bed. We skipped the toddler part of the crib and converted it to the full. We had no issues at all with him.

DS was in a toddler bed from < 2.5 til 4.5 then we got him a big bed. I am moving DD in a few months, she will be 2 in April. It went so well with DS that i'm moving her rather than buy another crib (due in July with #3)

DS went straight from crib to regular bed (twin). I needed his crib (that converts to toddler bed and full) for DD that was coming. I wasn't buying an additional crib.

He was about 3 months shy of turning 3.
We bought him a new bedroom set that will grow with him. I bought the adjustable safety rails at BRU.

At first, I would lay with him until he fell asleep (that was a scene - 9 months pregnant and getting out of a twin bed that's 1 foot off the floor). We go through phases. He will go in there and go to sleep on his own when my parents or basically anyone else is watching him.
Most times he passes out in our room (we are usually cuddling/reading etc) and we move him and he stays there all night. It's what works for us.

Ok I guess the ages vary a lot -

I was just thinking I'd do it now, while he was already in a 'i don't want to sleep in that bed' phase .......so I wouldn't have to transition AGAIN ........

we never converted the crib because I was pregnant-- Sash went into a full sized bed from the crib about 4 months before she turned 3. There were a few days of adjustment, but it was fine.

eta-- I got the extra long bed rails for both sides since bed was not up against a wall. I thought it would make her feel like she was in a crib.

She's been sleeping without the rails now for a few weeks, although I still have them tucked under the mattress since they are hideaway.

never did toddler bed
he went straight to a full and we also have extra long bedrails.
He still sleeps in his bed like he would in a crib
All over the place.
He also screams in the middle of the night and lately winds up on a bed I made for him on the floor.
DH made the room and put a lot into it and all new furniture and all MAson wants to do is sleep on a blanket on the floor

I switched DD from a toddler bed to a twin bed last year when she turned 3. I did it because she was getting to be too tall to fit on the toddler bed.. there was no major adjustment involved at all.

Her crib actually converts to a full size bed but unfortunately, it won't fit in her room.

DS went into a toddler bed at 21 months, twin about a month later, and then a full sized bed at 26 months. Go for it! Its so much more roomy to be able to lay down there with him to read a story, etc

EYA: he is almost 4 and we still have bedrails on. He rolls around a lot, plus they help to keep the stuffed animals on the bed.

We just put DD in a twin bed last weekend, and she is just over three years old. She was in a crib up until now.

Knock on wood, the transition has been amazing. She doesn't get out of bed until we go in to get her in the morning.

DD will be 3 in June and has been in a Full Size bed for over a month already.
Its nice to be able to snuggle with them before they fall asleep

DS #1 was just under 2.4 yrs - went from crib to a twin.
DS#2 just turned three went from crib to twin bed. He begged to go sooner but we didn't have time as house was under construction and we needed to buy him a bed since DD#3 was on the way and had no place to put the crib in the interim.

I never converted my crib to a toddler bed. Moved both boys when I needed the crib for the next child.

we skipped a toddler bed and went right into a twin bed. I was nervous about it but it was so easy and he never gave us a problem.

i would switch him if i were you. It can't hurt since he's already having issues at bedtime. good luck!

twin bed at 3.5 yrs


toddler bed at 2 3/4 yrs
and still in it at 3.5 yrs

not sure what we are going to do though bec his bed will be the crib converted to a full...but first we have to use it for his lil sister for a year...(she is only 3 months now)

DD #1- went to a twin bed @ 2 years old and a full bed @4 when we moved and had room for the full.

DD#2- went to a twin bed @2 years old with a rail, the rail was gone by 2.5 years old.

DD#3- went to a twin bed @ 15 months, since she could climb out of the crib, At almost 2 she still has the rail on it.

If part of his sleep trouble is I dont want to sleep in that bed I woud try the new Big Boy Bed. You can make a big deal about it and let him help pick out his new bedding etc.
