Working moms: what do you do during school breaks?
I have now been a SAHM for 3 years, with occasional freelance thrown in. Today I got a call from an agent with whom I have been keeping in touch who asked if I would be available for a project next week. I had to decline because it is of course the week of NYC public schools spring break.
This made me wonder--because I do hope to get back to work come September -- what d you guys do when the school break comes around? I never had to deal with it before even thought I used to work full time, because when I did my kids were in daycare or with a nanny.

They're off more days than I have for vacation.
For the most part, my mom & dad will watch them or my MIL coordinates her visits for when they're off since she wants to spend time with them.
DH is on furlough for 14 weeks a year so I cross my fingers it lands during a break. If not, I take vacation days.
For the 1/2 days, which are plentiful, I sign them up for the afterschool program.
My friend signs her daughter up for vacation camps. For example, this week is horseback riding camp.

Almost the same for us (when I was working). Except my IL's don't watch my kids so it's usually a friend (someone who isn't working or someone who is a teacher). My sister is a nurse but she works the night shift so if we are in a SERIOUS bind she will come by and spend the day with them. Once in a while I would take them to work or ask to work from home. You get VERY creative when you need to!!

We have the same issue. I want to go back o work FT but we have no one to rely on for all the breaks, early release, and sick days.

There is winter, spring and summer camp for my ds (dd old enough to stay home by herself). Other days I take off as I have enough vacation days.

We bring them to the sitter we use for some days over the summer or my parents if it falls in the 6 months they are in NY.

Alternates between
their after school program offering child care on holiday days
my PTO
paying a sitter
and family watching them.
Their dad has less time than I do, but seems to use it on himself

I use my vaca time an one day a week I am able to work from home. It does suck though

My YMCA in Bay Shore has Spring Break Camp and thats where my kids end up.
