Christian radio stations and asking for money
Ok, so I kind of like Christian rock. Don't flame I know it's cheesy.
I just have a few CDs that I listen to. THen I found that there's a Christian rock station, so I've had it on, just in the car or whatever, the past few days. And WTH. All they do is ask for money!!! They will play a song, spend 10 minutes soliciting donations, play some ads, and then repeat the cycle. They say that they are soliciting for "ministry" but I've never heard what that entails.
Maybe I'm just turning it on at the Wrong times, but is this what Christian radio is like? Because I'm pretty shocked.

Re: Christian radio stations and asking for money
Do they have any other advertising besides themselves asking for money, you know like other radio stations do for McDonald's or Sports Authority, etc? Because if they don't, then I can see their advertising as being important is it takes a lot of money to run a radio station...their building, DJ salary, utilities, royalties, etc. Just because they play Christian music doesn't make it less expensive...well the royalties maybe...but besides that, even if the DJ's work for free, which I doubt, they still have overhead so that is probably the ministry they are talking about, the ministry of ministering to you through song and the station. If they do have other advertisers, it still may not be enough to cover the bills.
Just a thought.
PS. Used to LOVE me some Christian rock back in the day lol. I grew up in a Pentecostal church so I used to listen to Jars of Clay, Michael W. Smith, etc, etc when I was in high school.

Re: Christian radio stations and asking for money
I have been listening to this station for the past couple of months. They are currently doing a Spring fund drive which is what you have been hearing. They are raising money to fund their radio station. Their ministry is reaching people with their radio show and the music that they play. It is really a great radio station and I love the music that they play. Don't be turned off by what is going on right now. It should go back to normal soon.

Re: Christian radio stations and asking for money
First of all, don't be embarrassed to say that you listen to Christian music. I got tired of listening to all the crap that's in music nowadays, so I switched to listening to the Christian station.
Where I live, the radio station hardly solicits for money. Like a pp said, maybe it's for a special cause and is only temporary.

Same here - there are several different religious-based radio stations that I land on sometimes while flipping through the channels, and I've never heard them ask for money.

Re: Christian radio stations and asking for money
Ok maybe it's just a fundraising drive then. They seem to have normal commercials. I was just turned off by the constant topic of donating. I will give it another week or two and see what happens.

Re: Christian radio stations and asking for money
K-Love, right? It must be a week long telethon or something because I've been listening to them for almost a year, and I haven't heard this until this week. Hopefully it'll be over soon! NPR did theirs about 2 weeks ago, and I feel like it was way more annoying - there were no programs, just fund raising. A necessary evil I guess.

Re: Christian radio stations and asking for money
I've listened to them since like last fall, and I think around Christmas they asked for an end of the year donation....... this pledge drive started this week..... Usually they talk about inspirational stories people call in on, or in the news and about regular family stuff in their lives.

Not cheesy- if more people listened to this music the world would no doubt be a better place. The songs are so encouraging.

Re: Christian radio stations and asking for money
I listen to them all the time and I agree it's a little annoying so I've been listening to other stations but like PP said they have limited commercials so it's a necessary evil. I really do believe they are doing God's work and its an important and much needed ministry. I sure this campaign will be over soon.. hang in there!
