Contractions/Braxton Hicks at 29 weeks
what would cause you to call the dr (knowing that you will have to go to hospital being that office hours are over!)
I have been having tightening, etc for the past week...sometimes it gets pretty often, but then spreads apart. Today, they are getting closer together, and I feel pressure down below (esp in the butt).
This is my fourth baby, and I know if I read this from someone else, I would tell them to call their dr asap....but I just don't know how to tell the difference between Braxton Hicks and real contractions (in full on labor with my last 2, I got to 8 cm with contractions about 30 seconds long and NOT painful at all). I really don't think I'm in labor, but I am a little fearful I am dilating???
Uhhhh....crystal ball, I need you now!

Re: Contractions/Braxton Hicks at 29 weeks
i'm 26 weeks and started having STRONG BH contractions for the past 2 weeks. they were usually coming every hour, but as often as every 10-15mins. one was so strong that i couldn't drive, and had to pull over. my OB told me to rest for a few days, stay off my feet and drink lots of fluids. they've definitely greatly diminished but are still present. i'd wait it out till the morning when your OB is in and call then and see what he has to say. fingers crossed it's nothing!

Re: Contractions/Braxton Hicks at 29 weeks
I had the worst BH ctx for almost my entire pregnancy. I had strong and frequent ones up until my water broke. And I could not dilate during labor. Go figure. I think it's totally normal but call doc to make sure.

Re: Contractions/Braxton Hicks at 29 weeks
Honestly, I would try to wait until the morning to go to your ob. I know how what a hassle it is to rush to the hospital. Take it one hour at a time, see how you're feeling or if theres more of pattern. I never went into labor, I had a scheduled c/s so I have no idea what I'm talking about, but that's what I would do. Trust your instincts and listen to your body. If you gotta go, you gotta go! GL!

Do they stop if you change position? I remember the doctor asking me this the last time.
If they stop then they are BH.

They don't stop, but they do get a stronger if I am walking around/standing. I feel better lying down, but they do not go away.

Re: Contractions/Braxton Hicks at 29 weeks
Coming from someone that just delivered at 30 weeks, I would call doctor and let them decide. He will probably want you to go get checked out - but wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry? I know the hospital is a pain in the butt, but delivering early would be much worse than the nuisance of going to L&D. JMO.... Feel better!

Re: Contractions/Braxton Hicks at 29 weeks
I know this was yesterday, but hopefully you went to the labor and delivery. Better to be safe than sorry. I was getting bad contractions at 29 weeks and the dr. put me on bedrest. It got so bad one day, I had to go to l&d and was very dehydrated and needed fluids to help stop the contractions.
take care.
