The rumors are everywhere that this is the guy. I would think they would make some kind of annoucement soon to clear his name or confirm it. I also heard that his dad was just arrested. I have no idea what for.
ETA: Sorry.. Snookie.. didn't tweet it. It was someone named Sookie.

I checked Snookie's feed and didn't see anything but someone names Sookie wrote something.
I thought he owned the Riverhead Aquarium. Someone wrote Atlantis Marine World, or are those two the same thing?

The authorities must know that there are musings of Bissett being put into the spotlight of possible guilt, and I wonder, if he were innocent or not a suspect or even ever on their radar, wouldn't they do a press conference saying just that?
However, if he IS under an umbrella of possible guilt, the authorities would stay mum. Which, they have been.
I believe there will be an announcement when we least expect it and after there is A-Z confirmed evidence.

Also, I hope it isn't true. I hope it's a weird coincidence and I feel terribly for his family.
One thing that sticks in my head is that Shannon Gilbert ran out of someone's home apparantly yelling and screaming that someone was trying to kill her and that's why she was escaping, yet nothing came of it? 
I also don't see a serial killer committing suicide......but I'm no professional...I did, however, read the following that was a profile of what the Gilgo killer may be like:
The Long Island Serial Killer is most likely a white male. His age can range anywhere from mid 20's to mid 40's. This man is probably well educated and well spoken. The man is probably somebody well respected in society in a position of power.
We believe that the man is most likely “good looking” and well spoken because he convinced these women to defer away from there normal routines during their hook-ups. Also he financially secure with an expensive car or truck to show off his status in society. Serial killers are all about attention and feeling powerful. This man may or may not have a job or hobby in which he has access to burlap sacks.

Just heard from a very reliable source that after he committed suicide his brother-in-law was checking his vault and found pictures of the murdered women when they were alive in there!!!

Totally what I am thinking. Most serial killers like the game and the attention. Too narcissistic to commit suicide. But, maybe he knew something?
As for the profile, eh, pretty generic and typical.

You are totally right. I read that wrong. It was Sookie. Thanks for pointing that out. I edited my orignal post.
And they are the same place.
I did a google search about it. There is some really interesting stuff online about it. Some say he is an amazing guy, some say he is a drug addicted crook who had bizzare sexual needs... other things say the SCPD justs want to end this so they are floating the story out to see if it sticks and just want to pin it on a dead guy. Other theories say that he had a partner in this mess. Based on the SCPD saying there was more than one serial killer and Shannon Gilbert saying, "they are trying to kill me".
In the end. We won't know what is rumors or not until something comes out confirming or denying it.

P.S. Also, maybe this is just the social worker in me, and how it's been engrained in my brain about privacy, but I just don't get that even if you are somehow close to this family and know things that way, why, the heck you would come here or online anywhere and share it?
I truly love to see when LIF reaches out to help people, because there are so many good people on here, but the opposite also is true with this site as well.

Well I hope nothing bad goes down with your family then, and it's posted all over LIF. My husband would probably have my head if I shared something he knew in confidence with this site. But maybe we're just weird.

I agree. Psychopaths wouldn't commit suicide. They don't even feel empathy or sympathy for those that they "love".

I did hear this. And from what I heard it's going to be released any day. The person I heard this from knows business associates of Mr. Bissett's. I honestly can't tell you truthfully that I know that the business associates are credible but I will be keeping an eye and ear out. I know this has been swarming around for a while but is a very delicate situation that's going to rock a lot of people and out of respect for the families I think the police might be trying to give the family time to handle this on a personal level before releasing OR it's always possible that the police are trying to tie up loose ends to the case. Either way I will keep my ears listening.

05/08/12) WOODBURY - Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota and the Suffolk County Police Department issued a statement this afternoon in regard to recent rumors involving a possible suspect in the Gilgo Beach murders.
The statement reads as follows:
During the past few weeks we have received hundreds of questions from members of the media about the accuracy of rumors represented on various websites regarding the solving of what is commonly referred to by the media as the Gilgo Beach murder case.
The solving of these murders has been, and will remain, a top priority for the Suffolk County Police Department and the Suffolk County District Attorney's office. All necessary law enforcement resources are being devoted to solving this case.
As with any active investigation, the Suffolk County Police Department and the district attorney's office should not and will not comment on who may or may not be a suspect.
Additionally, as far as updates on this investigation are concerned, neither agency will comment further at this time until we have some additional information pertaining to the investigation that serves the public or the investigation by its release.
Unfounded, anonymous internet postings or rumors about who may be a suspect should be given the appropriate weight they deserve by those who read them. It should be remembered that this type of unsubstantiated "gossip" can cause substantial harm and emotional trauma, not only to the members of the families mentioned on the internet postings, but also to the families of the victims.
While we are confident that this long, complicated, difficult investigation will eventually be brought to a successful conclusion, it will be the facts and evidence that will lead us to this conclusion and not internet rumors.
