Why do you need to get rid of it? I love seeing rabbits in my yard. Kind of like saying I don't want any squirrels. They need to live some place too. Please don't hurt it.

They do eat plants and other stuff you are growing. THey are cute, but can ruin what you have planted.

OP - I have no suggestions. Same problems here.

I would love to hear the answer to this because I was going to plant a vegetable garden but I keep seeing a rabbit in our yard. I don't want him to eat all the veggies.

Re: How do you get rid of a rabbit in your yard?

We have a fenced in yard, but DH has still put a small fence around our garden.

It works pretty well but every year we do lose some things, like corn. I think squirrels probably can reach this.

It is what it is.

Gives me an excuse to spend $$$ at the Farmer's Market or road stands by my parent's home Upstate.

Re: How do you get rid of a rabbit in your yard?

We have bunnies everywhere by my house and had a vegetable garden last year. I had a couple of nibbled veggies but nothing was destroyed. Besides a fence around the garden, there's nothing else I would do to get rid of them. They'll hop away soon enough!!

DH just put some green wire fencing. I think they sell it in rolls at Home Depot and you just cut as much as you need.

I can tell you that doesn't even stop them. Rabbits have been building nests in my backyard every year. Last year, one of my dogs dug out the nest and caught babies twice, this year, she caught another one. (we trained her to "drop it" so she didn't hurt the babies)

Two weeks after the last time we relocated the babies to the front yard, we had another rabbit digging a hole right in the middle of the grass.

They are just not that bright. Besides putting a layer of chicken-wire type fencing around the bottom of your fence and below ground to about 2 feet, you're not going to have an affect.

As for plants, I use this in the beginning of the season and every 30 days, which seems to do the trick:

And here's what I built last year to keep the babies safe:

I know I'm just encouraging them by protecting them but I can't let them get hurt, especially not by my own dogs. Chat Icon

They actually are very bright animals. They are doing what rabbits do - trying to eat fresh veggies and burrowing holes in the ground.

Best thing to do is to plant things in a border around your garden that rabbits don't like. They don't like flowers like geraniums and marigolds.

Also, you can put some smelly soap shavings around your garden - it will keep them away.

We put soap shavings at our dining room entrance for about a week to keep our pet rabbit of there - he now doesn't even attempt to go in that room.

i have small dogs and as soon as i let them out in the yard, the bunnies run away. BUT once, my king charles came face to face with one and they just stared each other down until the bunny ran away. It was so cute. We actually have a rabbit - for 9yrs now - so i think my dogs are used to that and just want to play!

We had this issue too but I got a spray at the garden store that you spray on your flowers and plants and it repels the rabbits.
It's safe too- it's made of hot pepper- smells like hot wings!
The rabbits dont' like the smell/taste and stay away.
It won't harm the flowers though.

Guess I won't have any nibbles out of my veggies this year then !! I put marigolds on the edge of the garden !!

My mom plants marigolds around her veggies because rabbits don't like them, supposedly. She says it works.

I had a bun who was 13 when she passed away. The vet said depending on breed, the usual life expectancy is about 8 years.

Our latest guy is just about a year old. Chat Icon
