When we purchased our home 7 years ago it was about 350 and last year it was 500. It went up a lot last year though. It went up almost $100 last year. In the prior six years it had only increased by 50...According to the insurance company the were able to re-rate homes last year per the state insurance comptroller.

holy cow that is low! who do you use if you don't mind me asking. i am with geico or state farm (can't remember now) and mine is $1900/year. I know that is higher-ish.
my house insurance was $1200 about 5-6 years ago and is now $1900.

It usually goes up anywhere between $100 to $200. Some carriers offer a loyalty discount for the first year where it will actually go down.
