Not sure if I'm posting on the right board...I have loads of questions.

Not sure if I should be posting here, but I apologize in advance if I am.

Had a BFP on May 20 (LMP was 4/23) - since I have a clotting disorder, I decided to be proactive in getting in to see my OBGYN. They set me up for a 7 week appointment for a sono on June 12.

Last week (Monday, May 28) I started spotting - went from brownish/pink to bright red by the end of the week. Was super sick on Tuesday night and thought I had food poisoning - vomiting all night.

I call the doctor's office on Wednesday, they bring me in for BW, and beta came in at 258. Doctor calls me Friday and asks me to come in for more BW.

I'm at the office, they draw my blood and I pass out and feel completely sick. Sat down, had some water, sugar lollipops and rested. After about 30 minutes, I asked to see the nurse again b/c I started to feel some cramping and just off.

She gets me in for an internal sono, and the on-call doctor notifies me that it's an ectopic pregnancy.

They administer the 2 shots of metax. and send me home. Beta was in the 100s on Friday.

Went in on Monday for more BW, beta is at 19.

Few questions:
1) Do I need to go in again to ensure I'm getting a 0 beta? Nurse felt it wasn't necessary since my numbers have been decreasing rapidly.

2) I'm now bleeding completely, like a period. Is this my period? Do I count today as my first day so I can get back to tracking my cycle?

3) We're going to wait two cycles before we TTC again. Any benefits to waiting longer?

4) I'm terrified of what's to come - if we get pregnant again, how soon can I get in to the OBGYN and is there anything they can do to ensure an ectopic doesn't happen again? Is there preventative care for something they have no idea what caused it?

5) At what point does the doctor "investigate" or decide to take alternative measures?

I'm so sorry for all the questions, but my head is totally swimming with a million questions. Every time I'm in the doctor's office, I walk in with these questions and never have the chance to ask b/c I just break down and cry.

I know plenty of women that have suffered an ectopic pregnancy and went on to have healthy pregnancies. I'm just beyond terrified and don't know whether I should be seeing a high risk and exploring alternative methods b/c of my clotting disorder or not.

Christine, OMG I am so sorry you went through this! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon As long as your beta is dropping and the nurse is confident that you don't have to come in for another bloodwork then you don't. The bleeding is not your regular cycle...its the uterus shedding the thick lining from the pregnancy (even though the pregnancy was not actually in the uterus but rather in your fallopian tube). You should definitely wait two cycles before you start trying again and YES there is preventative treatment for people with blood clotting problems. A very good friend of mine lost 3 pregnancies before the doctor caught on that she had a blood clotting/thickening disorder and she began treatment before she even became pregnant where she she had to inject herself with blood thinners every single day until she got pregnant AND throughout the pregnancy. It was rough, but everything worked out and she has two beautiful kids today. I'm not sure if you have the same blood clotting disorder but there is a variety of preventative treatments out there. Go to a good high-risk OBGYN and start treatment immediately or asoon as you're back to regular cycles.

Once again...I'm sorry booba! Hang in there and feel better! Chat Icon

ETA: Added that you should definitely see a high-risk doctor.

Re: Not sure if I'm posting on the right board...I have loads of questions.

Sounds a lot like my ectopic. You dont need to see a hirisk Doctor. My first pregnancy was ectopic and the 4 after werent...

Mine was treated with methotrexate and my betas dropped very slowly but they were a lot higher than yours... and i only spotted i didnt bleed... I had the shot on 10/27 and got AF 12/12. I had to wait 3 months because of the effects of the shot.

If you have significant bleeding now i would count it as CD1.

When you get pregnant again you will have to go for betas to monitor and determine if its viable. Generally ectopics dont double properly. Or they go up and down.

Ladies - THANK YOU so very much for your responses, and kind words.

I'm feeling a 10000x's better today and going to see the nurse tomorrow for one more round of BW. It takes 10 minutes of my time, and since day 7 after the shot is most important, I'll suck it up and go - can't hurt!

Thanks so much for clarifying whether or not what I'm having now is AF.

She doesn't need to see high-risk doctor for the ectopic, she needs to see high-risk doctor for her clotting issues, which most likely contributed to the ectopic and poses high-risk for future pregnancies.
