South Beach vs. WW
what do you think is better? I'm considering trying out the South Beach diet. I want to try something were i can lose a larger amount of weight in the begining. I know i just had a baby but i have 20lbs to go, my stomach is big and mushy and none of my clothes fit, want to speed up this weight loss a little. SB seems like a tough diet, but maybe that's what i need. I've never tried anything like that before...i'm almost 40 and i feel like i might need to try something new.

South Beach is very satisfying in that you see your numbers drop quickly. I think start with South Beach and shed 10 lbs quickly and then join WW. South Beach is not a lifestyle....to me...WW is. I am starting SB on July 5. I checked 2 books out of the library today to give me meal ideas. Why not check out your library and get some SB books and see if it would suit you short term. In the beginning it is NO sugar, NO carbs and NO fruit so that can be really hard.

Re: South Beach vs. WW
I'm all about combinations of diet plans because I tend to get bored quickly. I like South Beach because you can really see quick results....so it's a great way to start out - as a motivator. But I find it hard to stick to it long term because I start to miss certain foods. WW seems to be a good way to maintain weight loss...and it really teaches you about good/bad choices and portion control.
Both work!

thanks..i actually have the book..i bought it about 10 years ago but never tried it. I am losing on ww, but at about 1lb a week, without cheating. I think the week after i come back from vacation i will try south beach...if i could take off an additional 8-10 in two weeks that would help me a lot..at least i could get into SOME of my clothes then.

I have the basic SB book also which obviously lays out the details of the do's and don't of the diet. My problem with SB is that I always ran out of meal ideas and ended up eating the same stuff....boring! Now they have recipe books for SB, which is what I took out at the Library. One of them is Quick & Easy SB Meals and the other is Summer SB Meals.

I think SB is a great kick start. I a doing phase one now and am happy that I stuck with it. When you start phase 2 you can start adding in foods and switch to the WW mentality.

are you a celebrity in hiding or model? only asking because since you had your lo you've been wanting to loose this weight super fast. from what ive read loosing fast is really not the best thing for you. 1-2 pounds a week should be good. are you going on a scale? how about going going by how your clothes fit so you dont drive yourself crazy with that darn scale.
i did sb years ago and to be honest the first two weeks i lost but then you just go right to eating almost the same as ww.
i would say go for ww. good luck

Yes, i'm a scale addict and this is the heaviest i''ve ever been in my life..with my first ds the weight came off pretty fast, this time its not. My mother is even thinner than me right now! I had to go shopping in her closet, and some things were tight! I think i'm going to try phase 1 of sb for two weeks and then go right back on ww.

Re: South Beach vs. WW
I think SB is challenging to stick to indefinetly. I followed a plan from my nutritionist. some basic guidelines:
- eat 5 meals/day - 4oz is portion size for poultry - 3oz is portion size for meat - 5oz is portion size for fish - eat up to two carbs (fruit or grains) per day - eat up to two servings of fat per day (ie, olive oil, avocado, etc.)
week one only was low carb. i hated it b/c my body wasn't responding well to the sig drop in sugar. most people get over it after two days or so, it didn't go away at all for me. meals 1, 3, 5 were normal. Meals 2 and 4 are protein shakes (isopure - chocolate) no fats, fruits, etc this week. basically it was all protein and green veggies. of course i liked it a lot better a week later when i was weighed!
after that first week you can follow the guidelines above with fat and carbs, though in the beginning i was doing one of each.
sometimes i eat more than 2 carb servings but when that happens it is fruit.
so here's what i had today:
bfast: 2 slice ezeckiel bread w all natural organic pb (1 tbsp) snack: plum lunch: steamed chicken w/brocc w/garlic sauce on side snack: 1% cottage cheese w a few sliced up cherries mixed in
