Re: Shingles and breastfeeding
I had shingles back in 2004 and was still able to bf my dd with no consequences. Shingles is the chickenpox virus and unless it is an active case, there shouldn't be an issue.

Shingles and breastfeeding
I would have her contact her ped immediately. Shingles is contagious to anyone who hasn't had chickenpox or the chickenpox vaccine, but it would give them chickenpox, not shingles. I'm not sure how this works with a newborn, the baby might have some immunity from the mother but I'd definitely want to run this by the ped to make sure.

Re: Shingles and breastfeeding
If you have shingles you can give chickenpox to someone who doesn't have it. When I had it, I worked in a school and wasn't allowed to go to work.
