FYI if you bank with Citibank
My office mate happened to be looking at her account activity online and noticed a recurring $15 monthly service fee. She called and they said her account had to have a certain amount of money in it and she had to pay at least one bill online. They apologized and said she didn't fit the criteria and refunded her account. I looked at my account and found charges going all the way back to December of 2011! I called and was told the same thing, gave them a piece of my mind and they refunded me the fees that I shouldn't have been charged for to begin with. The following month, it happened again and they said they changed the type of account I had (I always had a basic checking account) and it wouldn't happen again. Well...what do you know I looked at my account yesterday and it was there again! I got a refund and am going to BFCU and opening an account today. After 20 yrs of banking with them I told them I'm disappointed that I have to monitor my account for my own bank scamming me. So check your accounts! The charges are usually the beginning of the month. They charged me about $140 total when I never met the criteria for it!

Re: FYI if you bank with Citibank
Citibank is the worst bank EVER. I just recently closed my account after banking with them for 15 years, and I ran. They are a large commercial bank that is doing very poorly and are making up the losses on poor consumers.

I got a letter about a year ago stating they were going to be charging me monthly maintenance for my free checking account I left and went to TFCU. I had been with them since 1996 and all they could say was sorry we have to charge you.

Yeah I had a Citi account and received the notification sometime last year about the monthly fees if you didn't have a certain min. balance. I closed my account with them just before the new policy started taking effect.

Re: FYI if you bank with Citibank
They told me that with a basic account there I shouldn't have any fees yet charged me repeatedly. They are full of it and probably owe millions of customers fees they should not have been charged for!

Also BFCU is free to open and all you need is a $5 balance and the 7'Eleven atm is free with them as well.

FYI if you bank with Citibank
I just checked my Citi accounts as I don't use them frequently and I must have enough money in there to waive the fees. Anyone know what the minimum balance needed is now to avoid fees?
The interest I am making in this account is so pitiful it's killing me. But I keep the account open as there are times where I might need to withdraw a lot of money from an ATM at a time and Citi's $1000 daily limit is nice.

I'm not sure but I want to say at least $6,000 at all times in the checking account or you must pay at least one bill on line. I didn't always have $6,000 at one time, but I paid ALL of my bills online so I should never have been charged and they did. I wonder what makes them chose someone over another person! I feel like the interest in all of my savings accounts, including ING is pitiful right now!

I have a Citibank acct and it's $1500 a month min balance for the Basic Checking. If you don't have at least $1500, they charge you a $30 monthly fee. The Regular acct is a min balance of $6,000 a month. I always monitor my acct online to make sure they don't charge me unknown fees. I also switched to BFCU last year when Citi announced their new Fee structure. I immediately switched to Basic checking and only use that account for my rental income, but once I sell my apartment, I plan to close out that account. I love BFCU and wish I has opened my account earlier..they are awesome.

Citibank, as well as other banks started doing this last year. They sent out letters about it before they implemented it, although I thought the charge was going to be $20.

I HATE Citibank. We left a few months back for BFCU. The fees are out of control. We switched to a non-fee checking, but then started getting hit with fees for savings and were basically told it's one or the other. Our response was nope, then it's neither. We've been extremely happy since switching.
