We are losing Ella, so devastated UPDATE: She's Gone :(
It's confirmed, it's MRSA staph and she is an extreme risk to my kids and Jake's sister's kids and even after the 6 weeks treatment she will still be a carrier and we could catch it or the kids could. She will always have infection and need antibiotics, always need drains in her ears and need many surgeries in the future, my MIL made the decision it's time to let her go, she is in alot of pain, constantly itching and scratching because of the constant ear infections. I feel so horrible, she is only 6 years old and was DH and I's first baby really, we have raised her from birth, through all her surgeries and medications and treatments. Just so sad it's come to this in a 6 year old dog. her quality of life is so diminished and she hurts, it will never end. Nothing but tears all day. I will miss her so much! Hard to justify putting her down when she is excited to see you and wags her ail but then the itching and scratching and yelps of pain. Ugh, this is so hard, i love her so much! She is such an important member of our family and holds a special place with us.
UPDATE: Our sweet Ella passed at 2:40pm this afternoon after a day of walk, bog swims, chicken for dinner last night and a nice doggy ice cream my husband made for her, she had a wonderful and she was surrounded by everyone she loved. Pain, free itch free and more more deafness. I know she is in a happy place now, i will miss her greatly, she was such a great and loyal dog! Can't believe she is really gone now.

I am so so sorry. How devastating. I am so sad for you and for your dog. This poor dog has suffered on and off for a long time, and I can imagine I would not want my dog to live that way either. I know it's probably too late but did you ever get that second opinion?

She is so beautiful...poor baby. All I can say is that thank God Ella has had you as her family for the past 6 years. I don't think many people would have done for her what you have done for her. I can't even imagine what you all are going through, but it sounds as if her quality of life is not good at all. Know that you did everything you could for her. If she is in constant pain, you are really doing her a kindness. Many prayers for Ella and your family.

She's beautiful! 
As hard as it is, you've done so much more than alot of people would have done.... and her quality of life is suffering... Its the right thing to do.

What a horrible decision to have to make. But if she's suffering, prolonging it won't solve anything. I'm so so sorry you're going through this.

How heartbreaking but honestly you did so much better than others would have. You tried your best to help her. I am so sorry for your loss. Poor thing isn't deaf anymore and not in pain anymore.

Im sorry for your loss.... we just lost our 9 Year Old Rottie suddenly on Tuesday 
Dogs are soo amazing. He actually waited for my husband to come home and within minutes took his last breath.
It is soooo hard. Especially when you have to explain it to your 3 year old who adored him.
I wish you all the strength to help you get through this time.
