outdoor party in october?
we are hosting a baby shower at our house for a very close friend and his wife. we were originally going to do it at the end of september, but since she's not due until the beginning of january we decided to push it to the end of october. there will be approx 30-40 people and our house is not that big so we want to do it outside.
we're planning on having a "baby-q" and doing burgers, hot dogs, chicken, etc but also incorporating hot cider, candy apples, etc to go along with the fall. we're also definitely going to do a bonfire and have a tent set up.
do you think it will still be warm enough to keep it outside? it will start at 1pm so it will be while it's still daylight, and i checked the weather on october 27th for the past few years and it's been between 55 and 65 degrees.

Re: outdoor party in october?
could you rent a tent? my friend does her DS birthday out in her yard in october but always has one of those big tents that you rent (she used all island i believe). they can come equipped with a heater too.

I love this idea!
It sounds like a lot of fun and I think the weather will still be okay for it, especially if it's on LI.
I also like the other poster's idea of getting a tent with a heater if you are a little nervous.
I got married in October and it was actually over 90 degrees on my wedding day, and we had the ceremony outside so you never know!

Re: outdoor party in october?
I think as long as you have a back-up or option for if the day is unseasonably cold, you should be fine.
I got married in November and it was sunny and mid-60s, but last year we had that freak snow fall a couple days before Halloween, so unfortunately nowadays you just never really know. I would guess you should be fine, so like I said as long as you have some sort of back-up for bad weather go for it!

Re: outdoor party in october?
It could really go either way. I got married in early Oct and it was FREEZING- like 40 degrees! My poor bridesmaids were freezing in their sleeveless dresses! But then I remember years where Oct was super warm- to the point of hot! I think if you have the tent with the heater option- you will be all set for either!

Re: outdoor party in october?
if you do it Columbus Day weekend it seems to always be notoriously beautiful and warm out. If you do it Oct 27 no biggie at all I have been to many parties that weekend including my own that I throw for Halloween. its been warmer the past couple of years. I have gone that weekend at night where it has been cold. All you need is a tent with sides and if its real cold rent a heater. We were fine.

It is usually nice out then, but last year it snowed a few days before Halloween.

outdoor party in october?
It's definitely hit or miss. I've gone to outdoor parties at the beginning of october and the weather was perfect. Late October can be iffy. I would make sure your guests know thats an outdoor party though so they can dress appropriately.

I guess it depends. Last year my SIL had my nieces bday party outside mid october and it was beautiful. But as a pp said it snowed around Halloween also.

Re: outdoor party in october?
Definitely get a tent with sides, so if it rains, people won't be hit with sideways rain. Also, tell people it will be an outdoor party so they can dress for it. Getting a heater is probably not a bad idea. Also, make sure your tent has lights because if it does rain and the sky gets very dark, you're going to want to see each other!
I have gone to outdoor Halloween parties for the past 5 years. The first year I was freezing because I wore a thin, shorter costume, so the next year we all wore sweatsuits as the Care Bears and it was SO HOT that I was jealous of the slutty girls -- you never know! Last year it rained and I was in a sweatsuit again and was FREEZING.

Re: outdoor party in october?
we had my sons 1st birthday party outdoors, under a tent, at the end of october. It was fine but, we did rent a few space heaters from the tent company just in case!
