Outdoor Birthday Party in Early October.. Need advice.

Hi,

I am planning Robbie's first birthday and of course have to do it at my house (money reasons). His actual birthday is Nov. 3rd. But I am trying for the end of Sep. beginning of Oct. I have come up with October 10th for the date. I can't do october 3/4 and Sept. 27th seems so far from his actual birthday.

My question is, do you guys think it is still warm enough to have an outdoor party and about the time. I am thinkign of doing just a 3 hour party, so people are not bored. I will have an character come for an hour and then I figure eat and do cake. However, I don't want to be rude in any way. Usually when we have backyard birthday parties for Ava we do 12-4 or 12-? but we always have the pool. We won't be able to have that obviously.. So, I don't know what else to do besides the clown, esp. becuase of $. So, my questions are do you think it is acceptable to do a 3 hour party with a time limit and what time of the day. I am trying to shot for the warmest part of the day, but not really sure if i should start at 12 or 1 or mabye even a little later.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. THank you so much.

I'm thinking it may be kinda chilly then. Weather is sooo unpredictable. We didn't even have a summer till August. Who know?! It may last till Oct.

If you do have it outside get a tent. Maybe have a magician or clown or something to entertain the kids. The earlier the better when the sun is up. Fall is my fav time of year though. What about getting tons of mini-pumkins and giving them out as gifts for the kids. Put their name on it. You can also have them decorate it as an activity.

My DS b-day is October 12 and for the last 3 years we have had his birthday outside in our backyard and had absolutely beautiful weather Chat Icon We will be doing the same this year ( and are hoping for the same luck!)...I have never needed to even wear a jacket...

If you go to http://www.wunderground.com/ , put your zipcode and then click on history, you can search specific dates for as far back as you want...Ofcourse its not a guarantee, but its something Chat Icon

ETA- I think we usually end up starting at around 1pm....

One year we did a Fall theme, and I put pumpkins from the farm ( we bought by the wheel barrow load) and hid them in the yard...We had a pumpkin hunt and then the kids decorated them with foam decoration faces ( sold at Oriental Trading)...We also did a mummy wrap ( toilet paper) , we have a bouncer also Chat Icon

We are doing my DS's 10/3 this year because we are going away 10/10-10/17.....

For the mummy wrap, we had each child grab a partner (another child or mom) They each got a roll of toilet paper...They had to wrap one of the two head to toe, and the first team to use their whole roll of TP wins Chat Icon ....I also gave out a prize for "best mummy", etc....to try to give everyone a prize Chat Icon
The kids had a blast and its super cheap Chat Icon

Great idea, thanks! :) let's pray together for great weather. I think I told you I am planning 10/10. I would like to do 10/3 but my SIL, his godmother has plans that weekend. :(

Ironically, I used to own a costume character company, so "The Mouse" lives at my house Chat Icon .....If you look in my album "Brandon's 3rd Birthday" , you'll see him....Depending on the age range, costume characters can be a big hit....Otherwise I would go with a bouncy house, they appeal to a multitude of ages....

If you are crafty at all, you can do your own face painting...Fortunately, with my background in childrens entertainment, I do that and make animal balloons myself Chat Icon ...Also, tatoos are easy...We also did a sand art table at my DS's last party...

For food- usually we do some hot trays and a hero...This year, I think I am going to do pizza....Regular pies for the kids and all types of specialty pies for the adults !

At some of the carnivals you sometimes see colored sand that the kids fill up plastic animals, castles etc....They can also make neclaces, bracelets etc...

We ordered everything from Oriental Trading Chat Icon
