Those who live in a 1 bedroom apt or who sleep in the same room as DC come in!!!
How do you go to sleep My DS used to sleep in the rock and play by our bed and everything was fine.. He slept very long stretches at a very early age. things were great. Now, we transitioned him to the crib about 7 weeks ago and he wakes up when we come in the room to go to sleep. He goes down at 8 and we come in at 11. He then is up for an hour and then wakes up again anywhere between 2-4a for atl east an hour. We are exhausted. We have a great situation and are saving for a house so I really don't want to move yet if we can help it. Should we resort to the living room!? Help

we were in a 1b until dd was 1. She was always in the crib so we never had a transitioning problem. Have you tried a sleep sac? maybe he liked the closeness of the rnp. you could also try a sound machine. have you tried to put him down an hour earlier? maybe its teething that is keeping him up? hope his late nights are over soon!

I agree with the pp about background noise. If you have soft music on or a humidifier going or something, the noise from you entering the room will probably be less of a disturbance.

My ds slept in our room with us until he was 11 months old. We had a one bedroom. We were buying a house and one night decided to sleep in the LR and leave him alone in the room. That was thenfirst night he sttn. For the next two months we slept in the living room, and he never woke up. Id sleep in there, or move

Re: Those who live in a 1 bedroom apt or who sleep in the same room as DC come in!!!
We do have a noise machine which is loud and on the whole night. We put him to bed at 8 and earlier would be hard because my DH works until 7:30 and I pump just so he can give DS the last bottle. I am really thinking of putting our mattress on the livingroom floor! We aren't moving yet, we just started looking for a house. We can put DS in the hallway because its almost another room, we currently have our desk there. I guess I will try both of those. and to the PP that slept in the living room, did you have a pull out couch? I have a very comfy pillow top bed I enjoy

We let him sleep in our bed.
We both work, I can't keep getting up every hour that he cries wanting to come into our bed - which is right across from him.
He sees us - there is nothing that can be done to make him fall back asleep in his crib. So I just put him in our bed.
He will fall asleep in his crib around 8 and does the same thing your DC does - wakes up when he hears us come in.
We have a sound machine as well...it doesn't work. He is in the routine of waking up at that hour to be put in our bed.
Both DH & I don't mind it - the last 2 years have flown by, I want to enjoy every second I can of him wanting to be next to us

Re: Those who live in a 1 bedroom apt or who sleep in the same room as DC come in!!!
we moved out to the west coast for a year when DD was 6 months. So from 6-18 months we were in a one bedroom. The only way we were able to make it work was to put her crib in the living room. It meant when she went to bed we stayed in our bedroom, which wasn't always easy, but it worked and she slept through the night. I kept a pack and play in the bedroom for naps during the day.

This isn't even an option for us because I have a VERY soft pillow top mattress. My Husband also tosses and turns, rough at times, since he got home from Iraq....I think DS needs to be put in the livingroom :(

Re: Those who live in a 1 bedroom apt or who sleep in the same room as DC come in!!!
We slept in the same room as DD for a year and a half while our house was being renovated and we were living at my parents'. She was around 15 months when we started this arrangement, and though I was worried it could not have worked out better.
Two things I think helped immensely were a sound machine and putting up a privacy screen at night. She typically slept through the night but when she would wake up at least she wouldn't see us.

The privacy screen and noise machine are a good idea. Are you turning lights on and everything when you come in? If so, maybe you should make sure you have everything ready BEFORE he goes to bed and maybe keep a nightlight in there so you don't have to turn lights on.

Re: Those who live in a 1 bedroom apt or who sleep in the same room as DC come in!!!
We never had a transition issue because we put him in the crib from the beginning. What helped us a lot was the white noise stuffed animal that we would put on his crib. This way when we went in the room later he wouldn't here us. Also, for naps he would go in the PNP which was in the living room. I've tried to not make it soo quiet for him so now he sleeps through anything (i vacuumed by him while he was napping and he wouldn't wake up!)

Can you get a pullout couch and sleep in the LR? If you put him in there, then you can't walk around at all...Maybe if he can't see you when you walk in, it may help. Get a small room divider and see if that helps.

Those who live in a 1 bedroom apt or who sleep in the same room as DC come in!!!
We just moved out of our 1br in June, and my oldest is 4 1/2. We used a divider screen, but that stopped working when the older one was 18mos; I really think because I bf'd him, he could smell me. After that, we slept on a pull-out couch in the living room.

Re: Those who live in a 1 bedroom apt or who sleep in the same room as DC come in!!!
To answer PP, we do have a sound machine, I get the room ready before I put him in his crib, I haven't tried a separation, so that's another idea.
Last night proved that its not me that wakes him, but my DH I am very quiet so I told DH to sleep in the living room and I tiptoed into the bedroom. While he did stir a few times, he only woke up once for his bink and then fell back asleep. I know if he was in a different room I wouldn't wake up every time he moved!!! I guess we will have to speed up house hunting . Thanks for all the advice!!

This. Once he falls asleep we put him in the crib but at some point he is o in our need again. We feel the same way. We love the snuggling because it won't last long.

We lived in one until DS was 18 months. The sound machine was absolutely key! We always kept it dark in there and tried to stay quiet when we went in. Good luck!!

Re: Those who live in a 1 bedroom apt or who sleep in the same room as DC come in!!!
We had DD in our living room. Once she went to sleep at 8 we would sit in bed and watch TV or read or whatever we needed to do.
Our apartment is railroad style so we had to walk through the living room to the kitchen and bathroom - I used breathable bumpers so DD could not see us and she never woke up when we walked through

Yep we coslept. No way I was giving up my sleep. And as she got older we realized NOTHING would stop her from waking up at early odd hours so we let her stay up longer. She went to bed later but slept longer. She would sleep 6-7 at a time but that was it. So if she went to bed at 8, we'd wake her up in an hour and keep her up until 10 then back to sleep and down she'd go for 7hrs. If we let her sleep at 8pm she was up at 2am!
At least at 4am its not the end of the world. We give her a morning bottle and nap for another hour or so. By 5:30 we were up anyway (our cat needed his insulin and cats need to be fed, hubby showered kind of stuff)
