Re: Constipation
join the club My Dr will only allow Metamucil, Colace, Fibercon & Surfak. I have found drinkinging prune juice or just eating the prunes themselves help.

Re: Constipation
You can colace. It's a stool stoftener, so don't worry. It isn't like a laxative where you take it and have to stay home.

Mirilax is similar to colase -- it draws water into the colon to make it easier to go, without actually being a laxative. It just makes things move smoother. That's what my OB recommended this pregnancy, although the same OB recommended colase last time.

I found miralax to be easier because you can just use a little less if you need to adjust the dose. The colase you can only either take one pool or two (and with DS I was actually taking three right in the beginning)

Re: Constipation
Benefiber!! Works wonders. Mix it into your drinks every day. I swear by it. I tried prune juice, colace, etc.

Constipation
Mr dr preferred I not taking anything in the first semester....this has been the worst week for me by far!!! Prune juice, bran flakes, bran muffins, beans, yogurt, walking, got down on all fours (elbows and knees) and swayed, bent over the kitchen chair and ' prayed' .....with all of that combined, it has still taken me hours to go. TMI-tears of joy come to mind just when I fart. LOL!!!! Wouldn't change any of it because we are thrilled to have our little one, but man oh man....I don't remember any of my friends or family talking about this challenge when they were preggo.

I would talk to your dr again. Putting yourself through the stress and straining to go is NOT good at all. You can wind up with an impacted colon, hemroids, or rectal bleeding. I'm in my 3rd pregnancy and have taken something all three times. Do not let yourself suffer because your Dr is being (in my opinion) unnecessarily over cautious. The risks of what I mentioned CAN be avoided.
